Abstract:
A wireless communications validation system comprises a validation module configured to determine an identity of an antenna disposed in a computer system and an identity of a wireless module disposed in the computer system, the validation module configured to validate permissible combination of the antenna with the wireless module.
Abstract:
An electronic device has a display in which the casing of the display includes a plurality of recessed cavities into which radio and antenna modules can be inserted to provide the electronic device with a wireless communication capability. The display can have cavities for one or more radios and one or more antenna modules. A radio electrically connects to one or more antenna modules via conductor(s) contained within the display and connects to the host electronic device via a serial bus (e.g., USB). Accordingly, the display can have a plurality of radio/antenna combinations thereby concurrently providing the electronic device with multiple wireless communication capabilities.
Abstract:
A portable computing device antenna identification system comprises an antenna configured to be disposed in the portable computing device, the antenna having a sensor connector uniquely configured to transmit a signal indicative of an identity of the antenna.
Abstract:
A radio comprises a first transceiver, a second transceiver, and a baseband control coupled to the first and second transceivers. The baseband control selectively implements one of at least a first and a second communication mode. For the first communication mode, the first transceiver transmits and receives data while the second transceiver functions as a diversity receive transceiver. For the second communication mode, the second transceiver transmits and receives data and does not function as a diversity receive transceiver.
Abstract:
A wireless device comprises a plurality of receivers and logic coupled to the receivers. The logic causes at least one receiver to receive data communications from an access point while at least one other receiver concurrently scans for another access point.
Abstract:
A portable electronic device comprises an interface configured to, in response to detecting releasable engagement of an external antenna to the electronic device, switch from using an internal antenna to the external antenna for the wireless communications.

Abstract:
Embodiments of devices and methods employ usage mode based antenna selection. One disclosed method embodiment comprises determining a usage mode of a device, and selecting a subset of the available antennas in the device. The subset that is selected corresponds to the usage mode.
