A machine tool with a machine frame is disclosed. A first tool guide is provided on the frame to guide a tool to a first guide position. The first tool guide is a movable gantry carrier with a movable first sliding carriage. The tool guide can be moved with respect to the machine frame in a first plane along a first direction and in a second direction which is orthogonal with respect to the first direction. Furthermore, a second tool guide is provided on the machine frame to guide the tool to a second guide position. The second tool guide can be moved with respect to the machine frame in a second plane along a third direction and a fourth direction which is orthogonal to the third direction, independently of the first tool guide. Finally, a tool holder is provided on the machine frame to hold the machined part. The machined part is led between the first and the second guide positions of the tool. The second tool guide is a movable gantry carrier with a movable second sliding carriage.

The invention presents a spark erosion machine, having a travelling wire electrode and an optical measuring means to measure the deflection of the travelling wire electrode. The measuring means includes a light source (10) producing a homogeneous parallel bundle of rays. A sensor assembly (1,11) measuring the light beam which comes from the light source and is shaded by the travelling wire electrode (9) is designed such as to absorb a light quantity which is dependent in one-to-one correspondence on the relative position of the travelling wire electrode (9). An evaluation circuit connected downstream of the sensor assembly provides an electrical signal indicating the deflection of the travelling wire electrode from its straight position. By means of this electrical signal, the relative positions of the guide heads of the travelling wire electrode and that of the workpiece can be corrected in such a way that machining errors caused by the deflection of the travelling wire electrode can be avoided.

A power supply apparatus for an electroerosion machine serves to carry an erosion current to a passing-through erosion wire by means of at least one contact part, said erosion wire being pressed against the contact part by means of a contact pressure device. In order to increase the erosion currents which can be carried, the contact pressure device is formed by a magnetic field generating means which applies a magnetic field to the erosion wire.
