    Abstract: A method for synthesizing an anthracene derivative represented by a general formula (G1) is provided, in which a 9-arylanthracene derivative having an active site at a 10-position is subjected to coupling with a carbazole-3-yl-aryl derivative having an active site in an aryl group with the use of a metal or a metal compound, wherein A represents a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, wherein D represents any of an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, wherein α represents any of a substituted or unsubstituted phenylene group and a substituted or unsubstituted biphenyl-4,4′-diyl group, and wherein R1 to R9 independently represent any of hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group.
