Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device comprises a display panel and a polarizing plate. The display panel comprises a display area, a non-display area surrounding the display area, and a light-shielding layer arranged in the display area and the non-display area. The polarizing plate is provided on a surface of the display panel, and including an end portion located in the non-display area. In this display device, the light-shielding layer opposite to the end portion of the polarizing plate is at least partially removed.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal display panel having, a first substrate, a second substrate, a sealing material provided between the first substrate and the second substrate, a liquid crystal layer sealed in a region surrounded by the sealing material between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a plurality of first cell regions having a pixel electrode and a thin film transistor arranged in a matrix, and the second substrate includes a protective film over the second substrate and a light blocking film coated with the protective film on a surface of the second substrate on the liquid crystal layer side.
