摘要： A sheet conveying device includes: a sheet loading unit; a pick-up roller that draws a sheet from a stack of sheets set on the sheet loading unit; a moving unit that causes the pick-up roller to separate from or press against a top-surface of the sheet; a feeding member; a prevention member that prevents an original from being conveyed by the feeding member; a separation unit that separates and conveys each sheet, which is fed by the pick-up roller, to downstream in a conveying direction; and a detection unit that detects whether the original moves, the detection unit being arranged in a position near the separation unit or in upstream of the separation unit in the conveying direction. At least when the stack of sheets is being set on the sheet loading unit, the detection unit is not in contact with the sheet.

摘要： An ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) for an image processing apparatus of the present invention includes a separating and feeding device for feeding one document from a stack of documents while separating the document from the others. A conveying device temporarily stops the document fed by the separating and feeding device at a position preceding a reading position and again conveys, on the elapse of a preselected period of time, the document toward the reading position. A controller controllably drives the separating and feeding device and conveying device. The controller drives the conveying device by controlling the time interval between the restart of conveyance of the preceding document and the restart of conveyance of the following document.

摘要： An automatic document feeder includes: a recording-medium set unit, on which a recording medium is set; a recording-medium set detecting unit that detects whether the recording medium is set on the recording-medium set unit; a conveying unit that conveys the recording medium; a sheet-feeding cover section that constitutes part of the conveying unit and that includes an openable and closable sheet feeding cover; and a control unit that separately receives a power-on signal, which is output when a power source of an image forming device including the automatic document feeder is turned on, and an energy-saving return signal, which is output when a return is made from an energy saving state where a power source of part of the device is disconnected. When the power-on signal is received, the control unit performs an initialization operation to initialize each unit of the automatic document feeder.
