An image processing unit includes: a gain calculating section obtaining, based on first luminance information for each pixel, a first gain, in which the first gain is configured to increase with an increase in pixel luminance value in a range where the pixel luminance value is equal to or larger than a predetermined luminance value, and in which the pixel luminance value is derived from the first luminance information; and a determination section determining, based on the first luminance information and the first gain, second luminance information for each of the pixels.

There is provided a display device including a light-emitting portion configured to constitute a pixel and emit light by a drive current, a writing transistor configured to write a video signal into pixel capacitance, a driving transistor configured to control the drive current of the light-emitting portion on the basis of the video signal written in the pixel capacitance, a first metal layer configured to constitute a drain and a source of each of the driving transistor and the writing transistor, and a second metal layer configured to constitute a gate of each of the driving transistor and the writing transistor.

There is provided a signal generation apparatus for generating an output video signal based on an input video signal provided corresponding to an image to be displayed, the output video signal being a signal for driving an image display section including a display area, the display area including a plurality of pixels arranged in a two-dimensional matrix. At a change of the input video signal from low-brightness display to high-brightness display for a portion of the display area including one or more of the pixels, during a period for the signal change, the output video signal being generated for each of the one or more of the pixels in the portion of the display area to obtain a higher brightness than usual for the portion of the display area.
