    摘要: A shortest cut duration is a minimum required period between an edit point set on a stream of pictures such as an MPEG stream and the next edit point set on the stream. Restrictions are made on the shortest cut duration lenient in editing the stream. A controller detects each edit point set on the stream and identifies the fewest possible pictures which are not to be displayed but must be decoded first before decoding a picture to be displayed after the edit point. Then, the controller finds a start point representing the timing to start decoding the fewest possible pictures. Subsequently, the controller controls decoders to decode the stream in picture units on the basis of the start point, and controls a switcher to select one of outputs of the decoders on the basis of the edit point.

    摘要: The present invention allows a device to easily convert an on-screen image in HD format or SD format without increasing the processing load. The device according to an embodiment of the present invention uses the on-screen image D3 in which the number of horizontal pixels is set between horizontal pixel counts of HD format and horizontal pixel counts of SD format. Therefore, the device can utilize a relatively simple conversion ratio when converting the image in HD and SD format. This tremendously reduces the computational processing load. In addition, since the device uses the simple conversion ratio, the device can maintain the quality of the on-screen image D3.

    摘要: There is provided a signal processing apparatus for processing input three primary color signals, which is capable of providing natural color reproduction. Input color signals R to B are subjected to a matrix operation to obtain color difference signals (R-Y)0 and (B-Y)0. The color signals R to B are compressed by means of high luminance compression circuits 12R to 12B, respectively, and these output color signals R1, G1 and B1 are subjected to obtain a luminance signal Y1, color difference signals (R-Y)1 and (B-Y)1. The respective outputs obtained from the matrix operation are operated by means of look-up tables 43 to 45 and 52 to obtain color difference signals (R-Y)3 and (B-Y)3 for representing a color which has the same hue as a hue .theta. 0 of color represented by color signals R to B and a saturation same with the saturation r1 of color represented by color signals R1, G1 and B1. Then, the luminance signal Y1, color difference signals (R-Y)3 and (B-Y)3 are subjected to an inverse matrix operation to obtain output color signals Rn, Gn and Bn. The color signals thus obtained have no change in a hue and the saturation smaller than that of conventional ones even if high luminance compression processing is executed. Accordingly, a high luminance portion can be prevented from being too deeply colored.
