Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device that uses a particular liquid crystal composition and a color filter that uses a particular pigment.The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device that prevents a decrease in voltage holding ratio (VHR) and an increase in ion density (ID) of a liquid crystal layer and resolves the problems of display defects, such as missing dots, alignment variation, and ghosting.Since the liquid crystal display device of the present invention prevents a decrease in voltage holding ratio (VHR) and an increase in ion density (ID) of a liquid crystal layer and resolves the problems of display defects, such as ghosting, it is particularly useful for active matrix drive VA-mode and PSVA-mode liquid crystal display devices and can be applied to liquid crystal display devices such as liquid crystal televisions, monitors, cellular phones, and smart phones.

Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal composition that has a positive dielectric anisotropy (Δε) and a refractive index anisotropy (Δn) adjusted to a desired level, and sufficiently low viscosity (η) without degrading the nematic phase temperature range. The liquid crystal composition having positive dielectric anisotropy comprises one or more compounds selected from compounds represented by general formula (LC0) and one or more compounds selected from the group of compounds represented by general formula (LC1) to general formula (LC5), wherein the liquid crystal composition comprises a compound in which at least one of Y01 to Y41 in general formula (LC0) to general formula (LC4) represents a fluorinated C2-C5 alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl, or alkenyloxy group.

Abstract: The nematic liquid crystal composition according to the present invention is used for, for example, producing a liquid crystal display element used in TN mode, OCB mode, ECB mode, IPS mode, or VA-IPS mode. The liquid crystal composition has a positive dielectric anisotropy and allows reductions in refractive-index anisotropy and nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature and an increase in the lower limit temperature of a nematic phase to be suppressed. As a result, the liquid crystal composition has a sufficiently low viscosity without deteriorating the temperature range of a nematic phase. The liquid crystal composition allows high-speed response and high display quality to be realized, suppresses faulty display, and is suitably used as a practical liquid crystal composition.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal element which sufficiently optimizes mainly the electrooptical properties of a VA display, has a wide operating temperature range, a high-speed responsiveness at a low temperature, a halftone response speed, a high contrast, a wide viewing angle, a low threshold voltage, and a high resistance value, and includes a small amount of residual monomers and shows a high voltage holding ratio, even after polymerization of a polymerizable liquid crystal compound is performed. As a result of intensive studies to achieve the object described above, the inventors found the optimal configuration of a liquid crystal element and completed the present invention.
