    Abstract: A flexible dry sprinkler includes a flexible tube, an inlet attached to an inlet end of the flexible tube, an inlet seal assembly configured to seal an inlet orifice of the inlet, and an inlet release unit configured to release the inlet seal assembly. The inlet release unit includes a frangible member configured to support the inlet seal assembly in the inlet orifice. An outlet is attached to the outlet end of the flexible tube, and includes an outlet orifice sealed by an outlet seal assembly having a thermally responsive element and an outlet seal. A flexible linkage extends between the inlet and the outlet through the flexible tube, and translates, when the outlet seal is released, a predetermined distance to operate the inlet release unit.

    Abstract: A dry sprinkler has a casing tube having an inlet orifice and an outlet orifice. When the sprinkler is in a non-actuated state, an inlet seal assembly operatively seals the inlet orifice and an outlet seat assembly operatively seals the outlet orifice. A translating member extends through the casing tube between an inlet and an outlet. The translating member axially translates from a first position, in which the translating member retains the inlet seal assembly in a sealed state, to a second position, in which the translating member releases the inlet seal assembly, toward the outlet when the outlet seat assembly is released. The sprinkler has a nominal K-factor greater than 17 gpm/(psi)1/2. In addition, a difference between a cross-sectional area of the casing tube and a cross-sectional area bounded by an outer perimeter of the translating member is more than 30% of the cross-sectional area of the casing tube.

    Abstract: A horizontal sidewall fire protection sprinkler includes a sprinkler body, a sealing assembly, a sleeve body, a yoke, a load screw, levers, a soldered link, a slide plate, a deflector support member, a deflector, and a spring. When ambient temperature in an occupancy reaches a predetermined temperature, the soldered link fails, the levers release, and the yoke and the load screw are forced away from the sprinkler body. The spring forces the slide plate and the deflector support member away from an inner wall of the sprinkler body toward an opening at an outer end of the sleeve body, and the deflector support member and the deflector protrude from the outer end of the sleeve body. The sealing assembly is released from a sealed state, and the fire protection sprinkler outputs fluid from a fluid supply to the occupancy.

    Abstract: A horizontal sidewall sprinkler is provided which includes a sprinkler body having an inlet passage for supply of a fluid and an outlet, the outlet being closed by a sealing assembly prior to actuation of the sprinkler. The sprinkler further includes a sleeve body secured to the sprinkler body and a yoke substantially spanning a width of the sleeve body, the yoke urging a load screw against a surface of the sealing assembly facing an occupancy, and being held in place prior to actuation of the sprinkler by two levers that are joined by a soldered link. A slide plate is located near an inner wall of the sprinkler body facing the occupancy prior to actuation of the sprinkler. According to one example embodiment, a frame or two guide pins are provided for bearing and supporting a deflector. The deflector is positioned between the load screw and the sealing assembly thereby obstructing a flow of fluid from the outlet upon actuation of the sprinkler. A spring is provided in the sprinkler body, between the inner wall of the sprinkler body and pressing (1) the slide plate and (2) the frame or the two guide pins away from the inner wall. Upon actuation of the sprinkler, the levers, the yoke and the load screw are forced out of and away from the sprinkler by the force of the fluid; the spring forces the slide plate outward from the inner wall; and the force of the fluid moves the deflector away from the slide plate to a position for delivery of the fluid to the protected area.

    Abstract: A horizontal sidewall fire protection sprinkler has a deflector having a vertical face, transverse to the fluid flow from the output orifice, and a horizontal shelf positioned above and perpendicular to the vertical face. A horizontal or pendent fire protection sprinkler has a body having an output orifice and a flange and a seal cap to seal a flow of fluid from the output orifice and a thermally-responsive element positioned to releasably retain the seal cap. Housing members extend through and from the flange of the sprinkler body, and contain rods, each of which extends through the flange. A deflector is connected to ends of the rods.

    Abstract: A sprinkler with a push-in connection includes a sprinkler frame, an operating element, and a sealing cap. The sprinkler also includes one or more sealing gaskets and a retainer. Each such sealing gasket is located at least partially within a groove in the sprinkler frame. The retainer is also at least partially located within a groove in the sprinkler frame. The retainer connects to the internal bore of a welded outlet or a mechanical outlet when the sprinkler is installed in the outlet. The one or more gaskets seal against the internal bore of a welded outlet or a mechanical outlet when the sprinkler is installed in the outlet. The retainer is a spring mechanism so that the diameter of the retainer is reduced when the sprinkler is inserted into the internal bore of the outlet, and the retainer maintains pressure against the outlet internal bore.
