摘要:
A garment bag adapted to fold into a suitcase-like configuration for traveling includes corner compartments located within the interior bag in the space above the shoulders of garments supported on hangers within the bag. Cross straps extend over the shoulders of garments supported on hangers in the bag, and criss-cross over the upper portion of the garment. The cross straps support the upper portion of the garments on the hangers and restrain them against sliding downward when the bag is in the folded configuration. A stay bar is removably connected across the middle portion of the bag to support the garments when the bag is folded into the suitcase-like configuration. The ends of the straps are connected to the stay bar. A lower portion of an interior panel of the garment bag includes means for supporting the lower portions of long garments in a U-shaped configuration above a bottom gussett of the bag instead of occupying the bottom of the bag in a wrinkled bunch.

A suitcase may include at least two panels defining a pocket, a substantially planar object sized for receipt within a pocket, at least one guide joined to at least one of the at least two panels, and at least one connection assembly joining the substantially planar object to the at least one guide. The substantially planar object may be a table. The at least one connection assembly and the at least one guide may be configured to allow the at least one connection assembly to move along the guide. The at least one connection assembly may further be configured to allow the table to pivot relative to an outer surface of the suitcase. The table may be supported by an upper outer surface of the suitcase. The table may provide a working surface for a user.

A remote cinching device 14 comprising a resiliency mechanism 15 and 16, a force-transferring device 17, and a cinching device 28, 30, 32 enhances luggage, totes, briefs, and other transport and/or storage devices. The resiliency mechanism biases the luggage in an open condition, while the cinching device, located remotely from the areas undergoing the highest levels of expansion force (the top and bottom ends of an upright luggage case, for example), allows effective, easy, and visually pleasing compression of the case once it has been closed. The cinch is carried by force-transferring structures 17, by which the act of cinching is made even more efficient.

Luggage cases that are sized and shaped to be carried on to the passenger compartment of a commercial airplane are called carry-on luggage cases. Cases small enough to fit below the passenger seat 28 immediately in front of the traveler must be very small and compact and generally interfere with comfortable placement of the passenger's feet during travel. The disclosed luggage case 2 includes a tapering reinforced portion 22 of the main packing door 18 on which a passenger may wish to place or rest his or her feet during travel. This main packing door 18 is constructed to bend and open to give access to a specially designed slanting shelf area 12 where a bottled drink 16 or cosmetics can be easily accessed without removing the case 2 from its stowed position beneath the front passenger seat 28.

A carry-on case (2) comprising a packing compartment (12) defined by a lower textile panel (16) and a zipper track (8) that extends along a bottom edge of the packing compartment (12). Packing compartment is accessible from the top of the case (2) via a three sided zipper track (8) extending along the top edge, right, and left sides of the packing compartment (12) to permit all-sided access therein.

A wheeled upright luggage case is disclosed. The best embodiment of the case has wheels to allow the case to stand upright in a stable and balanced position without attendance by the user. The case has a wheel handle to allow the user to push or pull the case across a supporting surface. The case may be pushed or pulled on either four wheels or two wheels. When four wheels are used, the full weight of the case and its contents are borne by the wheels, relieving the user from having to bear with her arm any of the weight of the luggage. The body of the case is designed to have a specific range of tilt angles from the vertical; by tilting the body of the case toward the user, the design of the case improves the stability of the case while it is pushed across a supporting surface on four wheels. Various case body configurations and push handle arrangements are disclosed.

A two-wheeled luggage cases 10 formed of substantially two parts, the base shell 24 of a generally one-piece molded plastic construction, the lid shell 30 of a composite construction primarily of textile fabric panels assembled to form a covering that provides an access to the interior of the case. Properly fitting a textile lid to the integrally molded sides of a base shell is difficult, especially if the case is large, and most especially where the lid shell is constructed at a location remote from where the lid and base shell are joined to integrate the two and form the overall luggage case. Accordingly, the luggage case has a body portion which comprises a generally one piece base shell defining an interior volume to contain the user's things, and a lid shell is affixed to the base shell, the lid shell being mostly formed of fabric materials, and having a peripheral edge portion and an access opening. An elongated extrusion 55 is sewn along a peripheral edge portion of the lid shell. An outwardly facing groove is molded into the base shell adjacent and parallel to its peripheral edge, and fasteners 40 are passed through the edge portion of the base shell and through the first elongated extrusion. Straps 32 attach to the base shell and extend perpendicular to the peripheral edge of the base shell to embrace the lid shell and help provide a strong connection between the lid and base shell.

Luggage cases usually include wheels to aid in their transport. The wheels and their mounting systems must themselves be extremely sturdy, and should not cause weakness or mechanical failure of the luggage case to which they are mounted. The disclosed cantilever wheel mounting assembly 18 includes an axle 22 with a protruding end 26 that fits into an elastomeric mounting block 20 that in turn is received in a corresponding cavity in a molded luggage case shell. A screw fastener 38 passes through one of the walls 15 of the cavity, and through a corresponding hole 44 in the mounting block and through a hole 28 through the end of the axle 22 to hold the assembly in place while permitting the axle to pivot about the fastener when the elastomeric block flexes in response to vibrations and impacts in use.
