摘要: In order to increase the continuous operating time of a display device driven by a battery or the like, and a portable information terminal using the same, the volume and weight of the battery are increased. Thus, there arises a trade-off between the increased capacity of the battery and the portability of the device/terminal. Therefore, the invention provides a display device with portability ensured, which is capable of operating continuously for long periods and a portable information terminal using the same. In the display device, TFTs and an RFID tag are formed over the same insulating substrate. The RFID tag detects signals from a reader/writer, and generates DC power based on the signals. While the RFID tag is detecting signals, the display device is driven by the DC power generated in the RFID tag.

摘要: To provide a novel driving method for driving an electronic device by using digital gray scale and time gray scale in combination, which secures high duty ratio, which can display an image normally even when a sustain period is shorter than an address period, and which is hardly affected by dulled signal waveform. In a sub-frame period (102) where a sustain period is shorter than an address period, a clear period (105) is squeezed in between completion of a sustain period (104) and start of an address period of the subsequent sub-frame period. The length of the sustain period (104) thus can be set without being limited by the length of an address period (103). This non-display period is provided by changing the electric potential of a storage capacitor line. Therefore, unlike the case where the non-display period is provided by changing the electric potential of a cathode wiring, the present invention is hardly affected by dulled signal waveform.

摘要: An object is to provide a structure for forming a circuit for which high-speed operation and low-voltage operation are required and a circuit for which sufficient reliability is required at the time of high voltage application in a circuit group provided over one substrate in a semiconductor device, and a manufacturing method thereof. A semiconductor device is provided with a plurality of kinds of transistors which include single-crystal semiconductor layers with different thicknesses, which are separated from a single-crystal semiconductor substrate and bonded, over one substrate. The single-crystal semiconductor layer of a transistor for which high-speed operation is required is formed thinner than that of a transistor for which high resistance to a voltage is required, so that the thickness of the single-crystal semiconductor layer is made to be thin.

摘要: It is an object of the present invention to provide a semiconductor device which can generate desired level of a power supply voltage even when the received power of carrier waves is reduced in the semiconductor device, such as RFID tags or the like, which receives and transmits data wirelessly and generates electric power inside using carrier waves. In a storage capacitor portion formed of a plurality of capacitor portions, the plurality of capacitor portions are charged in the state of parallel connection, and at the circuit operation, a high voltage can be taken out from part of or all of the plurality of capacitor portions in series connection corresponding to a power supply voltage in need at that time. Accordingly, when the received power of carrier waves is reduced, i.e. even when a distance between a tag and a reader/writer becomes large, a voltage that is necessary for the circuit operation inside the tag can be assured so as to greatly contribute to increase a communication distance. In addition, electric power can be favorably supplied to a circuit which requires a high driving voltage inside the tag.

摘要: The reliability of an EL element is enhanced while the increase of the electric power consumption is suppressed. It becomes possible that in a SES drive, the reverse bias is applied to the EL element driven at a constant electric current. Moreover, the application of the reverse bias is performed by varying only the counter electrode, and thus withstand voltage of TFT and the increase of the electric power consumption due to the increase of voltage of the gate signal line drive circuit, which becomes a problem when changing greatly the electric current supplying line, can be suppressed. Furthermore, the reduction of the electric power consumption can also be achieved while the enhancement of the reliability is secured by making the reverse bias smaller than the forward bias. Moreover, the increase of the number of electric sources can be also suppressed by making the potential be in common with the potential of the electric source of the source signal line drive circuit or the gate signal line drive circuit, at the time when the reverse bias is applied.
