    摘要: A cutting insert for mounting on a milling cutter has a generally quadrangular shape with top and bottom surfaces, a pair of opposite first side surfaces intersecting the top surface at first cutting edges and a pair of opposite second side surfaces intersecting the top surface at second edges. Each second edge has a front cutting portion oriented substantially transversely to an adjacent first cutting edge and meeting therewith via a cutting corner. Each of the first and second side surfaces has upper and lower sections adjacent respective top and bottom surfaces, which sections have leading portions adjacent their associated cutting corner and trailing portions remote therefrom. The trailing portion of the lower section of each second side surface is at least slightly inwardly depressed relative to the leading portion of the lower section and is substantially inwardly depressed relative to the associated trailing portion of the upper section of the second side surface. The trailing portions of the lower and upper sections merge via a transition surface oriented transversely thereto.

    摘要: A cutting insert includes a first surface and a second surface each of which is polygonal and that face away from each other; a side surface that is continuous with the first surface and a side surface that is continuous with the second surface; a cutting edge formed along each of a ridge where the first surface and the side surface intersect and a ridge where the second surface and the side surface intersect; a bearing surface formed in each of a part the first surface and a part of the second surface adjacent to an insert center, the bearing surfaces disposed parallel to each other; and a recessed portion that separates the side surface that is continuous with the first surface from the side surface that is continuous with the second surface. The cutting edge includes three corner edges, a first cutting edge, and a second cutting edge, the first and second cutting edges being continuous with each other and located between each pair of the corner edges. A length of the first cutting edge is greater than that of the second cutting edge, an end portion of the first cutting edge adjacent to one of the corner edges is at a position higher than the bearing surface, and an end portion of the first cutting edge opposite to the end portion adjacent to the corner edge is at a position lower than the bearing surface. Each of the first surface, the second surface, and a cross section of the recessed portion has such a shape that outlines of the shape before and after rotation of the insert by 120° around the insert center are coincident with each other. The first surface and the second surface have the same shape, and the second cutting edge of the second surface is located at a corner at which the first cutting edge of the first surface is located.

    摘要: A throwaway insert and a cutting tool enable a high speed cutting operation for a metallic material having great ductility such as aluminum and obtaining a vertical wall with a high quality machined surface while improving chin control. The throwaway insert comprises a major cutting edge including a tapered cutting edge connected to a cutting edge of a nose portion, and a curved cutting edge connected to an end of the tapered cutting edge at a connection point. The curved cutting edge is formed so as to extend along an imaginary cylindrical surface whose center axis coincides with the axis of rotation of a tool main body, and tapered cutting edge is formed so as to gradually curve from the imaginary cylindrical surface toward the inside of the imaginary cylindrical surface as the distance from the curved cutting edge increases, and the distance from the nose portion decreases. The throwaway insert is attached to the tool main body in which the surface of the distal end thereof is machined so that surface roughness thereof is less than 3.2 nullm when indicated by the Ry roughness.

    摘要: A cutting tool, for milling, comprises a holder and a cutting insert. The cutting insert has a generally octagonal basic shape and has at least two cutting edges created by a transition between an upper face and an edge face of the cutting insert. The upper face constitutes a rake face and the edge face constitutes a clearance face, created at the transition of two adjacent cutting edges. The edge face forms a clearance angle of at least 20 degrees with a plane extending parallel to a center axis of the insert. The edge face is provided with a step which defines a fracture zone. The step forms an angle with a line extending perpendicular to the center axis. Cutting corners of the insert are beveled to form an angle greater than an angle formed by adjacent cutting edges.

    摘要: A cutting insert for use in a rotary milling tool is provided. The cutting insert includes an insert body including a bottom face, a top face, and a side face. A stepped cutting edge is formed at the intersection of the top face and the side face for engaging a workpiece and removing a chip from it. The stepped cutting edge includes at least two offset edge portions which produce distinct, transversely-spaced chip segments during the cutting operation. The offset edge portions are connected by transition edge portions which are disposed at an obtuse angle with respect to the offset edge portions. The angle of the transition edge portions tends to spread the individual chip segments apart during the machining operation to effect a thinning of the chip between the individual chip segments. The entire cutting edge is helically curved so that the cutting edge lies on the surface of a circumscribing cylinder defined by the rotation of the cutting edge about the axis of the milling cutter.
