    摘要: An ultrasonic densitometer for measuring the density or a density related parameter of a fluid has at least one transducer assembly that transmits and receives torsional waves guided in an axially extending sensor that is at least partially immersed in the fluid. The sensor has a noncircular cross section, typically rectangular, with dimensions, aspect ratio, frequency and bandwidth selected to limit dispersion. This non-circularity creates an inverse and substantially linear relation between the density of the fluid and the velocity of the torsional wave in the sensor. To meet special requirements, the sensor can take a variety of forms including axially curved, axially profiled, segmented or longitudinally composite. This densitometer, alone or in combination with conventional auxiliary ultrasonic measuring systems, can measure fluid density, density profiles, liquid level, viscosity, mass flow rate, gas pressure, and boiling or condensation, including measurements of flowing fluids in small conduits.

    摘要: An apparatus for measuring the flow rate of a gaseous or liquid medium includes a baffle member which is poised in the stream on an elastic holder and permitted to execute inherent periodic motions. The flowing medium exerts a damping action on the moving element and the energy lost to the medium is related to the flow rate. The inherent velocity of the baffle is sensed by an inductive velocity sensor and the resulting signal is used to alter the current through a coil which produces an accelerating magnetic field that acts on conductors rigidly attached to the baffle. Thus, the energy required to maintain the inherent motions of the baffle is known and the flow rate may be inferred.

    摘要: In a pulmonary diagnostic instrument that includes a breath transducer for use in conjunction with the instrumentation for detecting respiratory functioning of a patient or specimen, the transducer comprises a flow tube in which is suspended for lineal displacement a partial diaphragm generally constructed as a foraminous plate, and which during testing, the specimen's breath flows therethrough to achieve some degree of displacement of said diaphragm. The diaphragm incorporates and operates in association with various ferrous rings for enhancing the transfer of magnetic lines of flux which are generated by a charged E-core for determining the extent of said lineal displacement which is representative of and can be interpreted to provide information pertaining to pulmonary functioning for diagnosis of the respiratory system of the specimen. In another embodiment charged capacitive plates replace the aforesaid ferrous rings and E-core, and through a developed capacitive imbalance caused by the breath induced diaphragm displacement providing information that may be interpretive of pulmonary functioning, or flow of air.

    摘要: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for measuring the flow rates of liquids or gases. The method essentially comprises the steps of directing the fluid past an element which can oscillate transversely of the fluid flow, said element being normally biassed into the fluid flow, and measuring the oscillation frequency of said element to give the flow rate of the fluid. One form of apparatus for use in carrying out the method of the invention comprises a chamber through which the fluid can flow, a duct leading into said chamber for introducing the fluid into the chamber, an oscillatory element having at least a portion disposed in said chamber and being movable by the fluid flow transversely thereof about an axis offset with respect to the fluid flow. The fluid flow can be split into two or more separate flow paths. If this is done the apparatus comprises a collecting chamber through which the fluid can flow, a fluid inflow chamber to divide the fluid flow into at least two separate flow paths, conduits leading from said inflow chamber to said collecting chamber, each of said conduits having an outlet aperture in said collecting chamber, an oscillatory element mounted in said collecting chamber for movement transversely with respect to the fluid flow paths, and said element having portions which are acted on by the flow paths to cause the element to oscillate.
