    摘要: A temperature responsive switch has a bimetal-and-spring arrangement carrying a movable contact and having a first stable state urging the movable contact towards a stationary contact into an ON position and a second stable state urging the contacts away from one another into an OFF position; and a setting shaft setting the bimetal-and-spring arrangement to a desired temperature value at which the bimetal-and-spring arrangement displaces the movable contact from the ON position into the OFF position. The setting shaft has a relatively low temperature setting range and a relatively high temperature setting range. The switch further has a stopping mechanism having an operative and an inoperative state for preventing the bimetal-and-spring arrangement from assuming the second stable state in the operative state of the stopping mechanism and for allowing the bimetal-and-spring arrangement to assume the second stable state in the inoperative state of the stopping mechanism. The setting shaft places the stopping mechanism in its operative state in the low temperature setting range and places the stopping mechanism in its inoperative state in the high temperature setting range.

    摘要: A motor protector has a tubular metal housing with open and closed ends, has a contact welded to one inner side of the housing near the closed housing end spaced from an opposite inner side of the housing, has a terminal sealed in the open housing end, and has a bimetal member extending from the terminal into the housing along the housing axis in spaced insulated relation to the housing to move into and out of engagement with the contact in response to temperature change. The protector is compact and hermetically sealed and is calibratable by housing deformation without loss of hermetic sealing. In some embodiments first and/or second heaters connected to selected motor windings via sealed terminals are compactly accommodated in the housing along respective sides of the bimetal member.

    摘要: An electrical thermostatic switch, prior to calibration, has a flexible blade which is spring biased into contact with a thermostatic member. The end of the blade is submerged in a heat curable material. The switch is placed in an oven at a predetermined temperature level for calibration, with the result that the thermostatic element moves the flexible blade into the desired calibration position prior to curing of the heat curable material. The flexible element is thereafter held by the cured material in the desired calibration position.

    摘要: A thermostat is disclosed and claimed in which a totally enclosed switch is operated by a bimetal snap disc. The housing is provided with a small opening through which a testing probe may be inserted to test the gaging of the assembled device. Such opening is closed by a thin adhesively applied closure element, the application of which cannot alter the operation of the thermostat. A method of testing is also disclosed in which the thermostat is essentially fully assembled and then thermally cycled while a probe extends through a small opening to monitor the position of the movable element of the switch to determine the position within the snap range of the disc at which the switch closes. After the testing, the opening through which the testing probe extends is closed to complete the assembly of the device.

    摘要: A thermally actuated energy regulator of the kind including a switch controlled through a heat responsive actuator in the form of a bi-metal assembly. A lever is arranged to act between the actuator and the switch so as to actuate a switch in response to pressure applied to the lever by deflection of the actuator, which deflection occurs when the heater associated with the actuator is energized. The lever reacts against a fulcrum, the position of which is adjustable through a cam, and that adjustment permits variation of the amount of deflection of the actuator necessary to cause operation of the switch through the interacting lever. The switch, actuator and cam are secured to a body section in fixed relationship so that calibration of the regulator is simplified.

    摘要: To calibrate a normally-closed thermostatic switch of the type having a bimetallic switch arm fastened at one end to the inside of the switch housing, the switch is placed in an oven beneath reciprocable calibrating tool with the switch arm connected in circuit with the tool operation means. When the switch reaches the temperature at which it is intended to open, the tool is lowered so that a pair of projections on its lower end deform the housing at two spaced points until the switch arm snaps to its open position, simultaneously terminating the calibrating operation and deenergizing the tool actuating means.
