Abstract:
A fixture for supporting a workpiece such as a cast turbine blade allows bending and/or twist correction of the workpiece with the movable ram of a press. The fixture includes a base and a pair of workpiece supports mounted at spaced locations on the base. A bearing such as a spherical swivel bearing is included in each workpiece support. Each bearing has a mount receiving a portion of the workpiece therein. When the workpiece is supported by the bearing mounts along a support axis, and is engaged by the press ram intermediate the workpiece supports for bending correction, the bearings and workpiece can move in at least one plane including the support axis. Preferably, the bearings also allow rotational movement about the support axis, while a rotation imparting member allows twist correction by rotational movement of one bearing and the workpiece portion therein with respect to the other bearing which is restricted from rotating.

A presently-preferred die set for bending a workpiece having a marking at a predetermined location thereon comprises a male die having a substantially v-shaped end portion, a female die having a substantially v-shaped groove formed therein, and a sensor mounted on one of the male and female dies. The sensor is responsive to the marking when the marking is located at a predetermined position in relation to the sensor.
Abstract:
In a plate thickness detector for a bending machine causing a punch to make a relative stroke and bending a workpiece mounted on an upper surface of a die cooperatively by the punch and the die, a displacement gauge (17) is provided in the die, is always urged upward from a V-groove of the die, and measures a distance from the upper surface of the die to a lower surface of the workpiece, and ram position detection means (11) detects a relative stroke quantity of the punch to the die. The punch is caused to bend the workpiece from a position away from the die by a reference inter-blade distance. A plate thickness arithmetic operation section (35) inputs the relative stroke quantity of the punch at a point at which descent of the workpiece is detected by the displacement gauge or a predetermined point after the point, inputs the displacement quantity of the displacement gauge at this time using ram position detection means (11), and detects the plate thickness of the workpiece by subtracting the detected relative stroke quantity from the reference inter-blade distance and adding the displacement quantity detected by the displacement gauge to the subtraction result.
Abstract:
A wheel straightener for repairing a damaged or deformed wheel. The wheel straightener includes a shaft mounted to a cabinet. The shaft includes a mounting plate affixed to an extended end of the shaft. The wheel is seated on the shaft and held in a centered location by a centering cone. The centering cone is seated within a bore of the wheel and held in place by a nut threaded onto the shaft. A hydraulic cylinder/piston assembly is also mounted to the shaft. Force is applied from the shaft, outwardly toward a rim of the wheel through the hydraulic cylinder/piston assembly. The wheel straightener also incorporates a dial indicator for determining the run-out variances of a damaged wheel.
Abstract:
A method for stabilizing gram load of a head suspension assembly. The invention includes a mechanical back bending process. After forming, the suspension is subjected to residual stress. During mechanical back bending of the load beam, the applied stress is in the opposite direction of the forming operation. Subsequently, the resultant residual stress around the pre load area is reversed and acted against the pre-existing residual stress remaining from the forming operation. The net effect is a reduction and/or the elimination of residual stress altogether. Depending on the pre-load geometry and desired spring force, the degree of back bending is varied. Typically, a one-time back bending is not sufficient to stabilize the spring region at a microstructure level. It has been demonstrated that such repetitive back bending operation can effectively bring mobile dislocations into equilibrium, and thus reduce or eliminate the hysteresis loop.
Abstract:
A bending machine comprises a bending unit moved by hydraulic actuators controlled by a variable displacement hydraulic pump provided with an electronic closed-loop flow rate, pressure and power control system including an electrically controlled proportional valve. The valve includes a valve spool for the control of the swivel angle of the pump and a proportional solenoid for moving the valve spool to a position corresponding to a desired swivel angle of the pump. The control system includes an inductive position transducer, a pump swivel angle transducer, a pump pressure transducer and a programmed electronic control unit which receives position, swivel angle and pressure signals from said transducers and predefined pressure, power and flow rate commands and supplies a control signal to said proportional solenoid.
Abstract:
A press die certification system for certifying a press die including a vibration severity monitor operationally connected to the press die to be certified, the monitor creating output containing vibration severity data and press run speed data. Software is utilized for creating a die certificate and die certificate data, calculated on monitor output data obtained from data memory and from press setup information.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting the presence of mis-stripping uses a sensor function section free from operation sensibility variation or destruction due to vibration, impact or the like. Only a ram head in a punch press is provided in an electrically insulated state on the machine side and a low voltage is applied to the ram head. Grounding and conduction of the ram head to the machine side through punch tools is detected when the ram head is in contact with the punch tools, nonconduction is detected when the ram head and punch tools are not in contact, and the nonconduction time is determined to be mis-stripping.
Abstract:
Determining of the starting and end positions of the machining programme of a gear making machine with respect to the axial position of the workpiece (11, 18) by means of a laser light line (14) projected at right angles to the workpiece axis, the position of which light line relative to the reference point of the tool (5, 17) is known. By mutual displacement parallel to the workpiece axis, the light line (14) and one or both of the workpiece end faces (16) are brought to coincide. The axial positions thus obtained are transmitted to the machine control system. The determining of the axial tool position takes place analogously by the projection of a laser light line onto the circumference surface of the tool (5, 17) at right angles to the tool axis.
