    摘要: A method for replacing a damaged brake beam on a railcar having a car body supported on a railcar truck. The railcar truck includes a wheel and axle assembly mounted between a pair of laterally spaced side frames. The side frames include structure, on an inboard side thereof, for guiding and supporting the brake beam, and with the structure on the side frame members defining a predetermined lateral distance therebetween. The method comprises the steps of: removing the damaged brake beam from between the side frames of the railcar truck; arranging a first part of a replacement brake beam structure into supported and guided relation with the brake beam guide on the first side frame, with the first part of the brake beam structure having an operative length shorter than the predetermined distance between the brake beam guides on the first and second side frames; arranging a second part of the replacement brake beam structure into supported and guided relation with the brake beam guide on the second of the side frames, with the second part of the brake beam structure having an operative length shorter than the predetermined distance between the brake beam guides on the first and second side frames; securing the first and second parts of the replacement brake beam structure to each other to form a rigid assembly capable of withstanding the braking forces applied thereto during operation of the railcar and with the combined operative lengths of the first and second parts of the replacement brake beam structure being substantially equivalent to the predetermined distance between the brake beam guides on the first and second side frames; and providing a brake head in operable combination with each of the first and second parts of the replacement brake beam structure for movements toward and away from the wheels as the first and second parts forming the rigid assembly move within the brake beam guides on the side frames.

    摘要: The present invention provides an improved TMX.RTM truck mounted brake assembly for applying a brake shoe force to a railway car wheels by interfacing with an axle motion III bogie. The improvement comprises a rack and pinion type hand brake mechanism integrally mounted on at least one truck bogie per railway car. The hand brake mechanism utilizes a plurality of gear/pinion arrangements to transmit the force applied at the drive wheel to the transfer lever disposed within the TMX.RTM truck mounted brake assembly to effect the brake application. The hand brake mechanism is disposed within the spatial confines of the TMX.RTM truck mounted brake assembly and axle motion III bogie. The brake beams of the brake assembly are of the open box construction to accommodate such hand brake mechanism. A visual indicator is provided to identify the hand brake in both fully applied and fully released positions.

A member moveable parallel to a first axis has a first pivot connection having a second axis about perpendicular to the first axis, a second pivot connection having a third axis about perpendicular to the first axis and parallel to the second axis, and a third pivot connection having a fourth axis about perpendicular to the first, second, and third axes. A proportionalization lever has a length about parallel to the second and third axes, which is pivotally connected to the third pivot connection. It has a first end portion and a second end portion, with its pivot connection disposed intermediate its first end portion and its second end portion. A first brake pad positioning means for a first brake pad is pivotally connected to the first pivot connection, and a second brake pad positioning means for a second brake pad is pivotally connected to the second pivot connection. A first force communication means communicates force from the first proportionalization lever end portion to the first brake pad positioning means to apply force to the first brake pad, and a second force communication means communicates force from the second proportionalization lever end portion to the second brake pad positioning means, to apply force to the second brake pad. Force applied to the second brake pad is proportional to the force applied to the first brake pad.

The brake beam includes a clevis rotatably connected to a channel member with the clevis having depending tabs which allow the clevis to be positioned in a right hand or left hand orientation. The brake head is connected to an adaptor which allows the brake head and shoe to float and accommodate wheel wear or the misalignment of the brake beam and wheelset.

The combination of the housing, the bulkhead and the piston head define a gas-tight space to which the brake operating compressed air is passed.
