摘要: An improved X-ray source is disclosed. The improved X-ray source has an enclosure, electron guns, a first set of address lines extending through the enclosure, a second set of address lines extending through the enclosure, and nodes defined by the intersection of the first and second set of address lines. Each of the electron guns is coupled to one of the nodes such that a state of each electron gun is uniquely controlled by modulating a state of one of the first set of address lines and one of the second set of address lines.

摘要: Some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method that includes colliding a laser with an electron beam to produce backscattered x-rays while the electron beam is traversing a circular arc. This backscattering process is inverse Compton scattering (ICS). ICS x-rays are emitted in the same direction as the electrons. Because this ICS direction is changing as a function of time, the position of the x-ray beam on a detector will change depending on the timing of electron/laser collision. This position change is easily detected and converted to a timing measurement sensitive at the femtosecond scale, converting a very difficult timing measurement of laser pulse, electron pulse, and x-ray pulse synchronization into a simple and robust position measurement.

摘要: Disclosed herein is an x-ray backscatter apparatus for non-destructive inspection of a part. The apparatus comprises an emission shaping mechanism that is configured to receive an electron emission from a cathode and to adjust a shape of the electron emission from a circular cross-sectional shape into a first elliptical cross-sectional shape. The x-ray source further comprises an anode that is configured to convert the electron emission into an unfiltered x-ray emission having a second elliptical cross-sectional shape. The apparatus also comprises an x-ray filter that comprises an emission aperture having a cross-sectional area smaller than an area of the second elliptical cross-sectional shape of the unfiltered x-ray emission. The x-ray filter is located relative to the unfiltered x-ray emission to allow only a portion of the unfiltered x-ray emission to pass through the emission aperture and form a filtered x-ray emission.

摘要: An X-ray generation apparatus includes an electron gun having a cathode emitting an electron beam, a first housing accommodating the electron gun, a target on which the electron beam emitted from the electron gun is incident, a second housing accommodating the target, and an electron passage extending between the first housing and the second housing and configured to transfer the electron beam from a first internal space of the first housing to a second internal space of the second housing. The electron passage includes a diameter-reduced end portion decreasing in diameter toward the target. The first housing is provided with a first exhaust flow path for evacuating the first internal space in the first housing. The second housing is provided with a second exhaust flow path for evacuating the second internal space in the second housing.

摘要: In embodiments, a linac electron beam excited X-ray source weighing less than 50 pounds, and having a volume less than 1 cubic foot, injects electrons from an RF-excited, diamond tip cathode into a dielectric accelerator tube of diameter less than 10 mm, where the electrons are RF-accelerated to 1-4 MeV. A focusing channel having a plurality of annular permanent magnets can surround the dielectric tube, and a vacuum can be maintained in the tube by a getter pump. The accelerating RF can be 10 GHz or higher. The X-ray source can be powered by a rechargeable battery for more than an hour. Embodiments can be transported within a case having a display attached to an interior surface of its lid. An X-ray head can be removed from the case and extended up to 10 feet while remaining interconnected with the case by a flexible conduit.
