Abstract: A bedding foundation frame for use in manufacturing a bedding foundation. The foundation frame includes side rails and end rails formed into a rectangular configuration and a plurality of slats extending between the side rails and parallel to the end rails. Selected ones or all of the slats are reinforced by sheet metal strips positioned in juxtaposition to the bottom of the reinforced slats with a longitudinally extending flange in the central portion of the strip extending upwardly into a longitudinally extending slot in the center of the bottom face of the reinforced slat. These sheet metal strips, because of the presence of the flange in the sheet metal strip, function to provide additional resistance to bending of the slats under normal loads while simultaneously preventing breakage of those slats under abnormal loads.

Abstract: A border support spring has a pair of complementary torsion wires for providing increased resilient border support to a mattress spring assembly. Each torsion wire of the present invention is bent to have an elongated center section having a pair of spaced ends from which extend divergently projecting transverse arms. Each transverse arm terminates in an end portion which is adapted to be secured to the top or bottom border wire of the mattress spring assembly. The end portions and center sections are each generally orthogonal to the orientation of the transverse arms. The center sections of the pair of torsion wires journal together to prevent relative translational movement, but permit pivotal relative movement between the transverse arms. A helical laced wire is used to journal the center sections of the torsion wires together and extends substantially the entire length of the center sections. The border support spring of the present assembly provides increased resilient border support and reduced opportunity for noise and can be easily assembled and incorporated into the mattress spring assembly.

Abstract: A foot stool with improved stability is infinitely adjustable and has an actuating mechanism including a ring actuator which is mounted below a spoked base to be actuated by a person setting on the stool. The ring actuator extends concentrically around the spoked base and around a vertically adjustable column which supports a seat above the floor. The ring actuator is accessible from virtually any position around the stool. Rocking the ring actuator downwardly actuates a lifting mechanism coaxially mounted within the vertically adjustable column, and the weight of the person on the seat may be used to raise and lower the stool height. Since the ring actuator is mounted below the base and close to the floor surface, the person on the stool does not have to substantially lift a leg or shift its weight to actuate the lifting mechanism. Further, the actuating face is generally downward and parallel with the column of the stool so that actuation does not tend to tip the stool seat forward and drive the base rearwardly out from under the sitter. The base of the stool may therefore be lighter and still achieve the same or better stability than stools with heavy bases. Additionally, the stool of the present invention is light weight and comprises a minimum member of parts for inexpensive manufacturing and shipping, and for easy assembly.

Abstract: An improved sheet metal clip is interconnected in a collated stack of clips with a plastic rope inserted within side slots on each side edge of each clip. Each clip is generally U-shaped having a crown portion with a pair of parallel spaced leg portions depending from the crown portion. The rope is inserted within the side slots formed in the side edges of each clip. The preferred embodiment of the improved clip includes crown slots which are inwardly extending from each side edge of the crown portion. The rope can be retained within the slots by deflecting tabs on each lateral side edge of the crown portion to enclose the rope within the side slots. Abstract: An improved sheet metal clip is interconnected in a collated stack of clips with a plastic rope inserted within slots on each side edge of each clip. Additional methods to retain the rope within the slots include applying a hot melt adhesive deposit within each slot after the rope has been inserted therein or to heat a thermally activated portion of the plastic rope after it has been inserted within the slot to thereby engage the slot and retain the rope therein. The collated stack of clips interconnected with the plastic rope of the present invention provides the needed flexibility and tensile strength for use in manufacturing applications and does not detrimentally affect the operation of the clip in clamping wires and springs together.

Abstract: A sofa sleeper comprises a stationary wooden sofa frame and a foldable sofa bed assembly mounted to the frame which is adapted to move between a fully folded or retracted position within the frame to provide a seat when used as a sofa and an extended unfolded position when used as a bed. The foldable sofa bed assembly includes pivotally interconnected head, body, intermediate and foot frame sections each including a pair of opposed side rails to which a wire fabric or plastic sheeting material is attached.
