摘要： A ballast having a dimming device for a low-pressure discharge lamp. It has two technically different possibilities for controlling the lamp brightness. The first possibility for controlling the lamp brightness is by means of adjusting the amplitude of the lamp current. The second possibility for brightness control is based on the fact that the low-pressure discharge lamp can be operated with a pulsed lamp current. In particular, both operating modes are used in combination in specific brightness ranges.

摘要： Method for varying the power consumption of capacitive loads, in particular compact fluorescent lamps which are operated using a phase-gating dimmer by a converter (step-up converter). According to the invention, in the case of a nonconducting dimmer (i.e. no system power supply to the load), the switch (T1) in the converter (step-up converter) is closed. In the case of a conducting dimmer (i.e. when a system voltage is applied to the load), the step-up converter operation takes place until a predetermined maximum voltage is reached across the smoothing capacitor of the load.

In this case, the current does not fall below predetermined minimum values for the lamp current. Phases with a high lamp current are characterized by a steep rising edge, compared with a flatter falling edge.
