    摘要: A method and an apparatus provide for controlled access to a shared communication medium. Time slots on a forward channel include information regarding status useful for remote units to determine whether a reverse channel is available for seizure. Additionally, information along the forward channel provides guidance to the remote units to control attempts to seize the reverse channel. In one embodiment a remote unit divides a data package into a plurality of portions and attempts to seize the reverse channel using a single portion of the data package which corresponds to one time slot on the reverse channel. It then waits until it receives notification along the forward channel that the first data portion was successfully received before it attempts to send any of the remainder of its data in consecutive time slots on the reverse channel.

    摘要: A method has been provided for using the broadcast channel of a wireless multiple access network to communicate network timing information, or a time-stamp, to remote units. The method defines a broadcast channel protocol which divides communication frames into units called broadcast channel (BC) superframes. Each broadcast channel superframe is given a unique identification number, called a superframe count, which is transmitted by each base station. Then, both the network base stations and remote units can record events using the known superframe count. A method is also disclosed for the network to assign 14-bit identification numbers to remote units being installed into the network, so that communications can be conducted with installed remote units using the identification numbers instead of the 32-bit hardware serial numbers.

    摘要: A wireless communication system having a base unit and a plurality of remote transceiver units utilizes a dynamic time slot assignment scheme for channel access. The base unit receives and processes a channel access request message from a remote transceiver unit and prepares a channel measurement request message in response. If an Mth time slot of a time frame is available, the base unit sends this message in the Mth time slot and receives a message having channel measurement data in the Mth time slot of the next time frame. On the other hand, if the Mth time slot of the time frame is already reserved, the base unit sends the message in an Nth time slot of the time frame and receives a message having the channel measurement data in the Nth time slot of the next time frame. The base unit selects, based on the channel measurement data, an appropriate channel for communication for the remote transceiver unit, Continuing with use of the dynamic slot assignment, the base unit sends a message having a channel identifier associated with the selected channel and receives an acknowledgement from the remote transceiver unit in response.

    摘要: A method of recovering lost frames transmitted between a packet data sending unit and a packet data receiving unit in a data communications system is disclosed. When a frame is successfully received by the packet data receiving unit, it identifies a failure to successfully receive prior frames, i.e., at least one frame prior to the frame successfully received at the packet data receiving unit. The packet data receiving unit starts a selective reject wait timer and determines whether the number of frames missed so far is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold. If the number of missed frames is greater than or equal to the preset limit, the packet data receiving unit generates a selective reject message that includes a payload indicating a first missed frame and subsequent missed frames. If the number of missed frames is less than the predetermined threshold, the packet data receiving unit waits until the expiration of the selective reject wait timer, or until after the next determination that the number of missed frames meets or exceeds the predetermined threshold. It then sends the selective reject message to the packet data sending unit. Upon successful receipt of the retransmitted missed frames from the packet data sending unit, the packet data receiving unit generates a receive ready message and sends the receive ready message to the packet data sending unit.
