Abstract: A method of protecting an occupancy, using a pendent fire protection sprinkler arrangement to be mounted in a ceiling, includes providing a plurality of pendent fire protection sprinklers, each having a sprinkler body having an inlet and an outlet defining a fluid passage and a sprinkler axis, and threads for connection to system piping of the occupancy. A pair of frame arms projects downwardly from the outlet and meet to form a junction. A plug seals a fluid passage, and a thermally responsive element between the plug and the junction retains the plug in the fluid passage. A deflector is mounted to the junction and includes a planar central portion extending outwardly from the sprinkler axis along a plane perpendicular to the sprinkler axis and first, second, third, and fourth angled portions bent away from the frame arms in the outlet direction from the plane of the planar central portion.

In addition, the horizontal barrier is a sheet having one or more apertures. The system also includes a rack level fire protection sprinkler connected to a fluid supply conduit, and being disposed in the vertical flue space below the horizontal barrier. The rack level sprinkler has a K-factor of 11.2 gpm/(psi)1/2 or greater, and is vertically spaced from commodities stored on the rack and the other rack covered by the horizontal barrier.

Abstract: A cover plate is configured to be releasably connected to a fire protection sprinkler to conceal the fire protection sprinkler. The cover plate includes a first layer of metal on a first side of the cover plate that faces the concealed fire protection sprinkler, and a second layer of metal on a second side of the cover plate, the second side being opposite to the first side. The second layer of metal is bonded to the first layer and is more resistant to corrosion than is the first layer. In addition, the first layer is more thermally conductive than is the second layer. The fire protection sprinkler is configured to activate upon activation of a thermally responsive element. The thermally responsive element is a bulb or a soldered link.

Abstract: A ceiling-only fire protection sprinkler system for a storage area having a storage height up to forty-three feet (thirteen and one tenth meters) and a ceiling height exceeding forty-five feet (thirteen and seven tenths meters). The storage area includes floor storage or rack storage that has aisle widths less than six feet (one and eight tenths meters) and transverse flue spaces less than six inches (one hundred fifty millimeters). The system includes fire suppression sprinklers that each includes a deflector positioned at a height that is at least three feet (nine tenths meters) greater than the storage height and at least one foot (three tenths meters) below the ceiling. Activated sprinklers have a coverage area greater than sixty-four square feet (five and nine tenths square meters) and up to one hundred square feet (nine and three tenths square meters) per each activated sprinkler.
