    摘要: A light emitting device may include a light emitting layer including an organic semiconductor material with a liquid crystalline structure, one or more feedback structures, and a coupling structure. The one or more feedback structures may cause light emitted by the light emitting layer to be fed back through it along an axis in the plane of the device, thereby promoting the stimulated emission of light in the light emitting layer. The coupling structure couples some fraction of the feedback light out of the device. The coupled light may be emitted along an axis substantially normal to the plane of the device or at predetermined angles. The coupling and feedback structures may have a corrugated structure, a continuous variation of refractive index along an axis in the device plane, a period refractive index, or any combination thereof. The coupling and feedback structures may be separate, share common portion or combined together.

The display comprises a liquid crystal display panel and a backlight which is illuminated during the first mode so that the displayed image is visible throughout an extended viewing region in front of the device. The display also comprises a holographic element and a front light source, which is switched on for the second direct view mode. The holographic element redirects light from the front light source into part of the extended viewing region so that an image displayed by the device is visible in only a restricted portion of the viewing region.

    摘要: A point-to-multipoint star configured terrestrial radio communication system having at least one base station transmitting to and receiving RF communication signals from a plurality of associated subscriber stations in the 0.3-300 GigaHertz (GHz) range. The system includes means for reducing frequency uncertainty, drift or error of the RF transmissions from each of the subscriber stations to the base station. Each subscriber station has a low cost local reference oscillator, and the system incorporates a reference broadcast signal of high frequency precision from the base station and at each subscriber station there is means for measuring frequency error and compensating for frequency drift/error in the low-cost oscillator at the subscriber station. Moreover, the system can provide an estimate obtained from measuring each subscriber frequency drift or error in the base station and relaying the measured error to the corresponding subscriber station to compensate for that subscriber's transmitter's local oscillator be out of frequency.

    摘要: An ion mobility spectrometer includes a plurality of substrates defining a measurement region for receiving a singular laminar gas flow without any carrier or sheath gas. The measurement region includes an ionization region that is continuous with a detection region. An ionizing electrode, which may include a plurality of asymmetric electrodes, produces ions in the gas sample within the ionization region. The ionizing electrode may apply a time varying voltage to the gas sample to generate a time dependent ion production. A field generating electrode generates an electric field to deflect the ions in the gas sample, and a detection electrode array detects the deflected ions within the detection region. A controller is configured to determine ion species based on the detection of ions by the detection electrode array. The detection electrode array may include a plurality of detection electrodes, and the controller may be configured to differentiate ion species based on which ions are detected by which one of the detection electrodes.

    摘要: An optical film is provided for use in a light source or display to provide rapid cut-off of illumination with angle. The film comprises a light-transmissive substrate of a material having a reflective index greater than one and having first and second major surfaces. A surface relief is formed on at least one of the major surfaces and includes a mirror structure. The mirror structure comprises a groups of specularly reflective surfaces alternating in at least one direction with groups of transmissive surfaces. The film directs light passing therethrough into a desired angular output range, and light reflected back by the mirror structure is returned to a light source for recycling to enhance display brightness.

    摘要: An optical film is provided for use in a light source or display to provide rapid cut-off of illumination with angle. The film comprises a light-transmissive substrate of a material having a refractive index greater than one and having first and second major surfaces. A surface relief is formed on at least one of the major surfaces and includes a mirror structure. The mirror structure comprises a groups of specularly reflective surfaces alternating in at least one direction with groups of transmissive surfaces. All of the reflective surfaces are non-parallel to the plane in which the surface relief extends and at least some of the reflective surfaces are non-perpendicular to that plane. Light propagating through the film in a first angular input range passes without reflection into a desired angular output range. Light propagating through the film and reflected by the reflective structure passes into the same or an overlapping or adjacent output angular range. Light reflected back by the mirror structure is returned to a light source for recycling to enhance display brightness.
