摘要: A method and system is provided for capturing data from a population of device users with network access. A requestor may request a data capture. The requested data may include, for example, a geographical location or a desired subject matter. Devices capable of providing the requested data capture are identified and requested to provide the data. The devices may be identified based on location, capabilities, availability, etc. The data capture from the identified federated devices may be sent to the requestor. The data may be exchanged for a fee, determined by prearrangement or via an economic model such as a competitive auction.

摘要: A method and apparatus is provided for coordinating devices in a federated network of devices. A server may determine policies for coordinating the devices and may send messages to devices in the federated network for providing a service. The policies for providing the service among the federated devices may be based on properties of the devices or relative locations of the devices. For example, the federated devices may provide media data and control of the media data to a user. Provision of the media data and/or control of the media data may change from one device to another in the federated network based on policies from the server.

摘要: The routing of prioritized documents such as email messages is disclosed. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method first receives a text. The method assigns a priority to the document, based on a text classifier such as a Bayesian classifier or a support-vector machine classifier. The method then routes the text based on a routing criteria. In one embodiment the routing is directed by a measure of priority that reflects the expected cost of delayed review of the document.

摘要: The present invention relates to a system and methodology to enable a variety of information associated with one or more notification sources to be directed to one or more notification sinks via a notification platform architecture. The architecture includes a context analyzer for determining a user's state such as location and attentional focus, wherein the user's state is employed by a notification manager to make decisions regarding what, when and how information generated by the notification sources should be forwarded to the notification sinks, for example. These decisions can include a cost benefit analysis wherein considerations are given as to whether the benefits of notifying the user are outweighed by the costs of disrupting the user. Decision-theoretic policies and/or somewhat less formal heuristic policies can be employed to enable the decision-making process within the notification manager.

摘要: Methods for prioritizing documents, such as email messages, is disclosed. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method first receives a document. The method assigns a measure of priority to the document, by employing a text classifier such as a Bayesian classifier or a support-vector machine classifier. The method then outputs the priority. In one embodiment, the method includes alerting the user about a document, such as an email message, based on the expected loss associated with delays expected in reviewing the document as compared to the expected cost of distraction and transmission incurred with alerting the user about the document.

摘要: Immortal information storage is leveraged to provide an interactive means to retrieve information associated with a physical artifact. The information persists for a substantial portion of the life of the artifact. This allows users to interact with an artifact that symbolically represents an entity, where the entity can be an organic and/or non-organic entity. A physical artifact that symbolically represents a person, animal, or a structure can be utilized. The storage system can contain easy to discover information about building a decoder or providing power and interpreting the information stored therein. A personalized interaction model can also be utilized to facilitate in providing an interactive model that responds to user queries in a fashion characteristic of the entity. Access to the immortalized information can be controlled by identity of entity seeking access, the amount of time that has passed, or events that have occurred. Power for facilitating retrieval of the information can be from thermal, induction, acoustical, and/or light-based sources. A separate User Interface (UI)/Reader can also be employed to inductively provide power to interact with the immortal information and to provide an interface for the user.

摘要: Described are methods that utilize a geographic location technology (e.g., GPS) to determine user location data, and existing network-based websites (e.g., Internet websites) for searching and accessing data related to the location data such that the user context can be developed and stored. A location component is provided that determines location data of a wireless communications device of a user. A context component is provided that accesses context data based on the location data to define a context in which the device is located. Activities, goals, and overall context of a user can be inferred through statistical fusion of multiple sources of evidence. The context data is presented to the user via the wireless device such that the user can make decisions as to where to go, for example. User preferences can be accessed and applied to filter context data according to what the user desires to see and access.

摘要: Energy efficient transmissive and transreflective display devices use ambient light from a natural or artificial source to supplement light supplied by a backlight. Ambient light passes through a transmissive diffuser to a rear surface of a transmissive display panel. Additional energy efficiency is achieved by using one or more photo-sensors to detect the amount of ambient light and automatically adjusting the backlight intensity as a function of photo-sensor output. As a result, backlight intensity and power usage can be minimized while maintaining the viewability of images shown on the display.

摘要: A simulation environment for adapting a speech model (e.g., baseline model) to a user is provided. The user can interact with a base parametric speech model (e.g., statistical model with learnable parameters such as a Bayesian network) and give positive and/or negative feedback when the dialog system has performed what the user considers to be appropriate and/or inappropriate action(s). From the user feedback, the dialog system learns to take actions customized for the particular user. Speaker-dependent adaptation can be extended to the dialog level by performing maximum likelihood linear regression (MLLR) adaptation simultaneously with dialog personalization. Users are immediately able to observe how their feedback has caused the dialog system to adapt, and can quit training whenever they feel that the dialog system has adapted enough for current purposes.
