The casing (160) houses the reading section (143) therein. It is possible to place the cover section (110) on the casing (160). The conveyance section (130) is housed in the cover section (110) and conveys a sheet. The interposed member (170) is interposed between the cover section (110) and the casing (160). The controller (153) is housed in the casing (160) and controls the conveyance section (130). The cable (180) is connected to the controller (153), is also connected to the conveyance section (130), and transfers a control signal output by the controller (153) to the conveyance section (130). The linking member (190) is linked to the cover section (110) and is also linked to the casing (160).

An image processing apparatus includes a visible code area searching unit and a color replacement processing unit. The visible code area searching unit searches for a visible code area in a color document image corresponding to a document, and the visible code area includes a visible code. The color replacement processing unit (a) generates as a local color histogram a color histogram of the visible code area in a predetermined color space and determines whether removal of a stain image should be performed or not on the basis of a ratio of a pixel classified into a bin that includes a color of the stain image in the local color histogram, and (b) replaces the color of the stain image in the visible code area with a background color of the document if it is determined that the removal of the stain image should be performed.

A cable support mechanism has a cable support portion, and supports two flexible cables which are ribbon-shaped and in each of which a plurality of conductors are arranged in parallel to each other in a coating material. The cable support portion includes a first support surface, a second support surface, and a plurality of guide ribs. The first support surface supports one of the two flexible cables. The second support surface is formed on a side reverse to a side where the first support surface is formed, and supports the other one of the two flexible cables. The guide ribs projects from two edges of each of the first support surface and the second support surface, the two edges opposing each other in a flexible-cable width direction, so as to overlap, and be spaced by a predetermined distance from, the first support surface and the second support surface.

An image processing apparatus includes an area extracting unit, a specific halftone dot area detecting unit, and an encoding unit. The area extracting unit extracts a halftone dot area from an image. The specific halftone dot area detecting unit detects a specific halftone dot area, the specific halftone dot area being the extracted halftone dot area that includes a character and of which a variation range in a distribution of luminance and hue is less than a predetermined range. The encoding unit encodes the specific halftone dot area in an encoding manner different from an encoding manner for the halftone dot area other than the specific halftone dot area, the encoding manner for the specific halftone dot area providing higher image quality after encoding than image quality provided by the encoding manner for the halftone dot area other than the specific halftone dot area.

A setting form contains: (a) an additional-object specification field used to present an additional object that is placed onto a document in order to specify an extract area to be extracted from an image read from the document; and (b) a processing specification field used to select processing to be performed on information obtained from the extract area. The additional-object registration unit identifies an image of the additional object presented in the additional-object specification field and the processing selected in the processing specification field, and registers the image and the process associated therewith. The read-image processing unit searches the read image of the document for the image of the additional object and performs the processing associated with the additional object image on the information obtained from the extract area specified by the additional object image.

The image scanning device scans a document image sheet by sheet from a document including plural sheets. The controller is configured to perform a copy operation and causes the printing device to print an image based on the document image in the copy operation. Further, the printing device includes an outlet of the print sheet; and the image scanning device includes an outlet of the document, the outlet of the document outputting the document such that edges of the document and the print sheet in a width direction of the output tray are arranged at positions different from each other.

On the basis of first read image data obtained by reading a first face, a controller calculates a first sub scanning size, which is a size of the first face in a sub scanning direction. On the basis of second read image data obtained by reading a second face, the controller calculates a second sub scanning size, which is a size of the second face in the sub scanning direction. The controller determines the larger of the first sub-scanning size and the second sub-scanning direction size to a definitive sub scanning size, which is the size of the document in the sub scanning direction set on the document stage.

An image forming apparatus includes a scanner device and an image forming apparatus body to which the scanner device is attached. The scanner device has a document inlet and a document outlet respectively formed in mutually opposed surfaces thereof, and is configured to read an image of a document fed thereinto through the document inlet and discharge the document through the document outlet. The scanner device is detachably attached to a top surface of the image forming apparatus body. An image scanning unit optically scans a document image of a document. A transportation device performs transportation of the document set at a front insertion-ejection port as an insertion port and ejection port of the document. A controller performs in a first scanning mode image scanning of a top sheet of the document if the document has been bound with a staple. In the first scanning mode, the controller performs image scanning of a partial scanning area in the top sheet while transporting the document using the transportation device, and reverses a transportation direction of the document at a time point that the image scanning of the partial scanning area is finished. The partial scanning area is from a front end to a predetermined position of the top sheet, and the predetermined position is a position nearer to the front end than a binding position of the staple.
