There is provided an information processing apparatus and an information processing method that can enhance the image quality while, at the same time, reducing increase in client's throughput. Image data of a plurality of projection directions is generated by projecting 3D data in a plurality of projection directions and converting the 3D data into two-dimensional data, and projection direction information indicating the projection direction of each piece of the image data is generated as projection metadata. Further, the projection direction information includes additional projection direction identification information that indicates that the image data has been generated by projection in additional projection directions. The present technology is applicable, for example, to a data generation apparatus that generates data for delivering a point cloud.

The present disclosure relates to an information processing apparatus and an information processing method, and a program that can signal region information of a full sphere picture in a more variety of projection formats. The region information expresses a region on a spherical surface by signaling a plurality of vertexes on the spherical surface and by connecting the vertexes by shortest distances on the spherical surface. Alternatively, the region information expresses a region on a spherical surface by signaling surface regions in accordance with a number of surfaces, the surface regions being formed by signaling a plurality of vertexes on the spherical surface and by connecting the vertexes by shortest distances on the spherical surface. The present technology is applicable to a distribution system that performs network distribution of the full sphere picture by MPEG-DASH, for example.

There is provided an information processing device, an information processing method, a program, and a recording medium that make it possible to set a dynamic range of an image to be reproduced. A Java setting unit sets a dynamic range of an image to be reproduced. A generation unit generates the image to be reproduced in the dynamic range set by the Java setting unit. The present disclosure can be applied, for example, to a reproducing device or the like that reproduces an optical disk that records an AV stream of a main video in a standard dynamic range (SDR) and an AV stream of a main video in a high dynamic range (HDR).

A situation where some data is missing is to be prevented in a process of recording data on a second medium in a different format from the data recording format of a first medium. An information processing device that reads the data recorded on the first medium, and performs a process of recording data on the second medium receives copy permission information from a management server, and acquires, from a data providing server, additional data that cannot be acquired directly from the first medium. The information processing device reads a copy control management file recorded on the first medium, and accesses and acquires the additional data by using access information recorded in the copy control management file. The information processing device then uses data containing the acquired additional data as the data to be recorded on the second medium.

Image reproduction according to a display apparatus is realized by acquiring image information of an ultra-high definition (UHD) image from a playlist file or a clip information file. A data processing unit that performs a reproduction process of a disc recording data acquires a playlist file or a clip information file as a reproduction control information file corresponding to reproduction data recorded in a disc, determines whether or not an ultra-high definition (UHD) image is recorded in the disc based on recording data of such a file, and, in a case where the ultra-high definition (UHD) image is recorded in the disc, acquires image information of the ultra-high definition (UHD) image from the reproduction control information and controls output data for a display apparatus based on the acquired image information.
