    摘要: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for authenticating a processing system accessing a resource. An association of processing system identifiers with resources, including a first and second resources, is maintained. A request from a requesting processing system in a host is received for use of a first resource that provides access to a second resource, wherein the request is generated by processing system software and wherein the request further includes a submitted processing system identifier included in the request by host hardware in the host. A determination is made as to whether the submitted processing system identifier is one of the processing system identifiers associated with the first and second resources. The requesting processing system is provided access to the first resource that the processing system uses to access the second resource.

    摘要: Method, system and computer program product embodiments for, in an input/output (I/O) link handling complex instruction chains, a messaging scheme incorporating a method of error recovery between an initiator processor and a receiver processor, are provided. An operation initiation message is been sent from the initiator processor to the receiver processor for the receiver processor to begin work on an operation. If determined to be necessary, a terminate operation message is sent from the initiator processor to the receiver processor. The initiator processor withholds sending additional messages for the operation until a terminate operation response message is received. Once the terminate operation message is received, outstanding messages in process are flushed from the receiver processor. The receiver processor withholds sending additional messages to the initiator processor as the outstanding messages are completed. The terminate operation response message is sent from the receiver processor to the initiator processor.

The plurality of repeating commands are identified by redefining the intent count argument for the plurality of repeating commands as a repeat count argument using a flag argument incorporated into the locate record information. The repeat count argument indicates a number of times for a control unit in the computer environment to execute the plurality of repeating commands.

A determination is made of a source volume to backup using a logical copy operation. The logical copy operation is completed upon indicating the source volume data to backup. During a logical copy duration, point-in-time data in the source volume as of a point-in-time when the logical copy was established is copied to a backup space in response to receiving an update to the point-in-time data. A history of writes to the source volume is processed to determine whether to allocate a full target volume as the backup space providing a corresponding data unit for each data unit in the source volume or allocate a repository as the backup space, wherein the repository uses less storage space than the full target volume. The logical copy operation using the determined full target volume or repository as the backup space is initiated.

A first processing system detects a failure of a second processing system.     摘要: Disclosed is a bridge system for processing read transactions over a bus in which in a preferred embodiment prefetched data stored in a buffer is not discarded if the address of the requested read does not match the beginning address of the prefetched data. Instead, the bridge system skips to the next address of the prefetched data stored in the buffer and compares that address to the address of the read request to determine if a match exists. If the requested read address does match the next prefetched data address, the prefetched data starting at that next address is read out and forwarded to the requesting agent. Alternatively, if there is not a match, the bridge skips again to the next address and continues checking for a match until either the prefetched data is exhausted or another predetermined limit has been reached. In this manner, many unnecessary data reads of data already prefetched in the buffer may be avoided.

    摘要: A data processing system provides a method and apparatus for managing a shared resource between multiple processors. The data processing system includes a first processor for producing, or supplying, available sections of the shared resource, and a second processor for consuming, or allocating, the available sections within the system. The first and second processor share a memory containing a circular queue, a resource queue, for referencing available shared resource sections. The resource queue is initialized by storing a pointer to an available shared resource section in each entry of the resource queue. The second processor consumes an available section of shared resource by removing a resource pointer from a resource queue entry and sending a message signal to a mailbox message subsystem of the first processor. The first processor produces an additional section of available shared resource by servicing the resource message signal and adding a pointer to the additional shared resource section in an empty resource queue entry.
