    Abstract: A dry fire protection sprinkler has an inlet seal assembly to seal an inlet orifice. A spring seal compresses in response to a load. An inlet release unit releases the inlet seal assembly. A flexible tube has an inlet end connected to the inlet release unit. A flexible linkage extends through the flexible tube, and has an inlet end connected to the inlet release. An outlet biasing portion is connected to an outlet end of the tube and an outlet end of the linkage, which displaces upon activation of the sprinkler. A sprinkler body is connected to the outlet biasing portion, with an outlet seal assembly to seal its outlet orifice. When ambient reaches a predetermined temperature, the outlet seal assembly releases from the outlet orifice, and the outlet biasing portion displaces the linkage, causing the inlet of the linkage to operate the inlet release unit, releasing the inlet seal.

    Abstract: A flexible dry sprinkler includes an inlet, an inlet seal assembly having a spring seal that compresses in response to a longitudinal load, and an inlet release unit. A flexible tube has an inlet end and an outlet end, and a flexible linkage extends through the flexible tube, and is connected to the inlet release unit. An outlet release unit is connected to the outlet end of the flexible tube and to an outlet end of the flexible linkage, and displaces the outlet end of the flexible linkage upon activation of the flexible dry fire protection sprinkler. A sprinkler body is connected to the outlet release unit, and has an outlet orifice sealed by an outlet seal assembly until ambient temperature reaches a predetermined temperature. When the ambient temperature reaches the predetermined temperature, translation of the flexible linkage in an outlet direction causes release of the inlet seal assembly.

    Abstract: A fire protection sprinkler is provided, including a body having an output orifice, a closure element or seal cap to seal a flow of fluid from the output orifice, and a thermally-responsive element positioned to releasably retain the seal cap. A clip, having a first portion and a second portion, is provided, the first portion being engaged with the closure element, and the second portion being in contact with the sprinkler body such that upon actuation of the fire protection sprinkler, the closure element rotates about a pre-determined axis and moves away from the sprinkler body to permit flow of fluid from the output orifice. In particular, the portion of the sprinkler body which the clip contacts is a detent provided on the wrench boss of the sprinkler.

When reached, the outlet seal assembly releases from an outlet orifice of the body, and the outlet biasing portion displaces the linkage, causing the inlet end of the linkage to operate the inlet release unit, releasing the inlet seal assembly from the inlet orifice.

    Abstract: A fire protection sprinkler includes a sprinkler body having a boss including a circumferential portion having flat edges, and including a cavity on one of the flat edges, a closure element configured to be held in an output orifice to seal a flow of fluid from the output orifice, and a clip. The clip has a first portion that is engaged with the closure element, and a second portion configured to be inserted into the cavity on the one of the flat edges of the circumferential portion of the boss of the sprinkler body, and configured to contact the cavity such that, upon actuation of the fire protection sprinkler, the clip rotates about an axis passing through two points of contact between the cavity and the second portion, and moves the closure element moves away from the sprinkler body to permit the flow of fluid from the output orifice.

    Abstract: A horizontal sidewall fire protection sprinkler has a deflector having a vertical face, transverse to the fluid flow from the output orifice, and a horizontal shelf positioned above and perpendicular to the vertical face. A portion of the horizontal shelf extends in the fluid flow direction by a first length, with respect to the vertical face, and this first length is less than about half of the total length of the horizontal shelf in the fluid flow direction. A horizontal or pendent fire protection sprinkler has a body having an output orifice and a flange and a seal cap to seal a flow of fluid from the output orifice and a thermally-responsive element positioned to releasably retain the seal cap. Housing members extend through and from the flange of the sprinkler body, and contain rods, each of which extends through the flange. A deflector is connected to ends of the rods.
