SPACED APART STRUTS ARE PREFERABLY PROVIDED WHICH EXTEND GENERALLY AXIALLY OF THE DIE ASSEMBLY BETWEEN THE FLANGES TO PRESS THE FLANGES AGAINST THE HOUSING. THE STRUTS ARE DESIRABLY LONGITUDINALLY EXTENSIBLE TO ENABLE THEM TO EXERT A CONTROLLED DEGREE OF PRESSURE AGAINST THE FLANGES, THEY MAY BE PROVIDED WITH THREADED EXTENSION DEVICES. DESIRABLY HOLLOW PRESSURE TRANSMITTING MEMBERS LIE AGAINST THE FLANGES AND THE STRUTS APPLY PRESSURE AGAINST SUCH MEMBERS.

    摘要: In a container closing method and apparatus, a cover member transferring device for transferring a cover member from a first location where a supply of cover members is provided to a second location where a product filled container body is to receive the transferred cover member for closing the same. A carrier is supported by a support frame and is movable relative thereto in a fixed path from adjacent the first location to adjacent the second location. A pick-up device is suitably carried by the carrier and is movable relative thereto, the carrier having means for extending the pick-up device therefrom adjacent the first location to pick up a cover member and thereafter return the pick-up device with a cover member thereon. The carrier is moved in the fixed path so that the pick-up device is moved adjacent the second location where the pick-up device is again extended adjacent the second location for depositing the cover member on a filled container body whereby the pick-up device can thereafter be retracted to be moved back to the first location for receiving another cover member in the same manner.

    摘要: A removable closure plug seals closed an opening passing through a wall of a container construction, the removable closure plug having an annular groove therein snap-fittingly receiving the edge of the opening and engaging against the annular surface of the wall that is disposed intermediate the inner and outer surfaces of the wall whereby the closure plug seals closed such opening. The closure plug is so constructed and arranged that internal pressure in the container construction is adapted to increase to a certain value without adversely effecting the seal of the closure plug thereto. The closure plug is also so constructed and arranged that the same is adapted to vent the internal pressure to the exterior of the container construction intermediate opposed ends of the closure plug when the internal pressure exceeds that certain value by toggling the closure plug intermediate the opposed ends thereof so that the opposed ends remain secured to the container construction whereby the closure plug tends to prevent the internal pressure from exceeding such certain value.

    摘要: A specimen analyzer including a video camera for scanning a specimen and selectively counting features thereof on the basis of grey level and/or size. The device may operate in several modes to count only features darker (or lighter) than the selected grey level, to count only features that are darker than a first grey level but lighter than a second grey level, to count only features wider than a selected width, to count only features wider than a first width but not as wide as a second width, or to count features that meet more than one of these tests. A variable electronic mask permits the operator to select any area of the specimen within the view of the camera for features analysis without moving the specimen. Check spot pulses are generated for each featured counted and these may be displayed on a video monitor superimposed on a video display of the specimen. Provision is made for background compensation when counting features against the background that varies considerably in grey level. Further provision is made for cycling the specimen analyzer through a single cycle, corresponding to the field scan time of the video camera, each time a start button is depressed.

    摘要: An apparatus and method is provided wherein a circular sheet blank is formed into a cup-shaped article which is substantially free of defects. The apparatus and method utilize a pair of cooperating die assemblies having a pair of rings provided with a pair of cooperating blank-engaging surfaces each defined by a plurality of alternating concentric grooves and projections. The grooves and projections of one of the surfaces partially intermeshes with associated projections and grooves respectively of the other of the surfaces to define concentric undulations in the peripheral portion of the blank. One of the die assemblies has a male member provided as a part thereof and the other assembly has a cooperating die cavity whereby upon relatively moving the assemblies together the blank is drawn by the male member into the die cavity enabling the undulations to serve as integral columnar members which allow controlled flow of the peripheral portion to define a tubular wall of the cup-shaped article which is free of defects.

    摘要: A food container is provided having a bottom wall, a top wall, and a pair of end walls arranged at opposite ends of the top and bottom walls. Each of the end walls is comprised of an inner flap having a substantially lenticular configuration which defines a lenticular cross-sectional configuration for the container. A divider flap is foldably connected to and made from material initially comprising a part of the top wall, with the divider flap extending between the bottom wall and top wall and defining a compartment on each side thereof. The container has weakening means provided in its top wall enabling severing of material comprising the top wall to define a comparatively large access opening on each side of the divider flap for easy access into each compartment; and, upon severing such material the lenticular extension flaps and bottom wall enable the container to be used as a deep substantially leak-proof serving dish.

    摘要: In a rolling mill having rolls for acting on work passing between the rolls and means for removing coating which tends to accumulate on the rolls, means mounting the coating removing means for shifting movement between operative position in contact with a roll and inoperative withdrawn position and means, which may include control means actuated by entry of the leading end of the work between rolls of the mill, responsive to the position of the leading end of the work for shifting the coating removing means to operative position. The structure may include operating means actuated in response to the position of the trailing end of the work for shifting the coating removing means to inoperative position, desirably before the work leaves the roll. The invention may be employed in a rolling mill having in tandem a plurality of stands of rolls for acting on work passing between the rolls of the successive stands, means for removing mounting coating which tends to accumulate on the rolls and means mounting the coating removing means for shifting movement between operative position in contact with a roll of one of the stands of rolls and inoperative withdrawn position, and may include means responsive to the position of the leading end of the work for shifting the coating removing means to operative position, which may include control means actuated by entry of the leading end of the work between rolls of the first mentioned stand, and operating means actuated by passage of the trailing end of the work from between rolls of a stand of rolls traversed by the work before the work traverses the first mentioned stand of rolls for shifting the coating removing means to inoperative position. The control means and/or the operating means may include load cell, pressductor or current relay means.
