Abstract:
The invention concerns a method and an apparatus for drum debarking of wood, the bark being removed from the wood in a debarking drum being rotatable alternatively in the opposite directions and having different debarking properties in the alternative directions of rotation thereof. According to the invention, the wood and the loosened bark along with it are guided to a bark separation dependent on the direction of rotation of the debarking drum.
Abstract:
An apparatus for debarking logs comprising a drum rotatable about an axis and having an inner surface and outer surface with at least one movable debarking surface adjacent the inner surface of the drum to debark logs that come into contact with the movable debarking surface at a first rate. There is at least one fixed debarking surface at the inner surface of the drum to debark logs that come into contact with the fixed debarking surface at a second rate. The movable debarking surface is movable with respect to the inner surface of the drum between an operating position to allow contact between the movable debarking surface and the logs and a retracted position to minimize contact between the movable debarking surface and the logs.
Abstract:
A barking method, and an apparatus for utilization of the method, wherein a log (6) during a substantially linear feeding movement is brought to pass one or a number of barking devices (1; 4,4'), arranged to perform a surrounding rotary movement in relation to the log (6), the barking devices (1; 4, 4') are pressed into a contact position against the log by centrifugal force during the surrounding rotary movement in relation to the log, and the contact pressure of the barking devices (1; 4, 4') is continuously variable by increasing/decreasing the rotary speed of the barking devices (1; 4, 4') and the cutters are arranged inclined at an angle in relation to the feed direction of the log (6), to produce a feeding movement for the log (6) in a direction through the barking device (1; 4, 4').

Abstract:
A debarker toe assembly includes a holder adapted for mounting to the end of a debarking arm and a demountable toe including a debarking edge. The holder and toe include interengaging surfaces for centering and holding the pieces in precise alignment during assembly of the toe to the holder and during use in which the assembly encounters high impact forces.
Abstract:
A timber processing machine comprising a hollow rotor provided with barking and lopping knives. A tree trunk to be processed is fed longitudinally through the rotor. A non-rotable guide ring is coaxially fastened to the rotor at the inlet side of the knives. The front edge of the knives is sharpened along that portion of the knives which extends radially inside the guide ring. Said guide ring forces the branches of the tree trunk fed into the rotor to be bent into positions in parallel with the tree trunk and the knives cut the bent branches into pieces as the trunk is fed through the rotor.
Abstract:
A curving arm member and mounting assembly for use with a ring type log debarker. The mounting assembly comprises a shaft and cantilevered mounting plate to which the arm member is attached in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. The arm member has front and rear faces reducing in width from base to tip and leading and trailing edges at opposite sides thereof. A bark cutting edge is provided at the tip. The front face and leading edge converge in a spiral-like log engaging climbing edge from the base to the top. The cutting edge and a substantial portion of the climbing edge are carried on a removable insert member.
