Abstract: Extruded articles, such as tubing or multilumen catheters, having hybrid composition, an axial length and a transverse cross-section orthogonal to the length. The extruded articles have unitary construction and require no assembly. The composition of each cross-section of the article along the length of the article contains a first extrudable material and/or a second extrudable material. The percentage and/or distribution of the two extrudable materials in any cross-section varies along the length of the article in a controlled, continuous or discontinuous manner. The first and second extrudable materials may be an elastomer having different durometers, color or radiopacity. The weight percentage of one of the two extrudable materials in a cross-section may vary abruptly, smoothly and/or periodically along the length of the article. An extrusion die and a method for using the die for making the hybrid, unitary extruded articles is disclosed.

Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a rubber member includes an extruder; a mouthpiece; and a support surface which faces the mouthpiece in an opposed manner. The apparatus further includes: a rubber pool portion formed between the mouthpiece and the support surface; and a closing surface having an inclined surface shape and capable of closing a moving-direction front side of the rubber pool portion. A rubber material is ejected from an ejection port in a state where the rubber pool portion is closed by the closing surface, the support surface and the mouthpiece are moved relative to each other after the rubber pool portion is filled with the rubber material, and a lamination starting end of the rubber material is pressed to the closing surface thus molding the lamination starting end into an inclined surface and, thereafter, the closing surface is moved in a direction away from the support surface.

Abstract: A method for producing filaments of polyacrylonitrile and an extrusion head for carrying out said method are provided, wherein the method comprises preparing a polyacrylonitrile polymer solution and passing said solution through an extruder plate that determines the formation of filaments, a central chamber being defined between the extruder plate and a floating plate connected to a vibrating system, said chamber being surrounded by a peripheral chamber into which the polymer solution is introduced under pressure. The polymer solution then passes through to the central chamber via small radial conduits that accelerate the material, and is subjected to vibration in the central chamber before passing through the extruder plate.
