    摘要： A convertible sewing machine utilizes plain-seaming and closed-seaming head assemblies to provide both plain-seaming and closed-seaming functions in a single integral package. The convertible sewing machine includes a housing having opposing ends, a plain-seaming head-assembly disposed at one end of the housing, a closed-seaming head-assembly disposed at the other end of the housing, a drive motor and a drive-coupling assembly for mechanically coupling the drive motor and at least one of the plain-seaming and closed-seaming head-assemblies. The drive-coupling assembly is capable of selectively engaging either, or both of, the head-assemblies. A turntable mechanism can also be included for rotating the convertible sewing machine into several positions of operation.

    摘要： A sewing machine has a retractable handwheel which is always biased toward the outside of the frame by a resilient member. When pushed into the frame against the biasing action of the resilient member, the handwheel is locked in a retracted position in the frame by an actuating member. The handwheel is released in conjunction with operation for opening a cover covering the spool chamber of the sewing machine to allow the handwheel to be projected outwardly of the frame, so that the manual rotation of the handwheel may be effected.

    摘要： In a sewing machine, a stop-motion mechanism is provided for selectively performing stitching operation and thread winding operation. The stop-motion mechanism has a pulley secured to one end of a main drive shaft, which is driven by an electric motor, and a transmission disc for transmitting rotation of the pulley to a loop taker. To the pulley is detachably connected an operating member having a pair of engaging pins adapted to extend through the pulley. The operating member is rotated together with the pulley but axially displaceable with respect to the pulley between two positions, one position being close to the pulley in which engagement between the engaging pins and the transmission disc is established so that rotation of the pulley is transmitted to the transmission disc for ordinary stitching operation, and the other position being away from the pulley in which the engaging pins are disengaged from the transmission disc so that the transmission disc is stationary while the pulley is rotated for thread winding operation.

    摘要： A clutch element fastened to the end of a sewing machine main shaft by a shouldered screw is slidable thereon to a first position wherein axially extending clutch fingers thereof extend through guide notches in an interlock element fixed to the main shaft by the shouldered screw, into axially aligned recesses in a belt driven handwheel so as to drive the sewing machine main shaft. In a second position of the clutch element, the axially extending fingers thereof are withdrawn from the recesses in the handwheel so that the sewing machine main shaft is not driven. Detent means are provided to maintain the clutch element in a selected position.

    摘要： A mechanism for coupling and uncoupling a driven rotatable drive wheel from a rotatable shaft, particularly, the arm shaft of a sewing machine from its associated drive wheel in order to spool up the lower thread, comprises a rotatable shaft which has an annular collar portion which is frictionally engageable by a drive wheel which is freely rotatable on the shaft. The drive wheel is continuously driven from a drive, such as a belt, and it may be urged into engagement with the collar by means of a nut which is threaded onto the end of the shaft. The arrangement includes a stop disc which has a cam surface which is engageable with a stop defined on the nut end face in a recess thereof. The cam surface and the stop define a cam structure which permits rotation of the nut so as to permit frictional engagement of the drive wheel with the shaft collar for driving the shaft and the disengagement thereof by rotation of the nut in a reverse direction. The amount of movement permitted to the nut is such to permit easy engagement or disengagement of the drive shaft without moving the nut to such a degree that, for example, it may cause the drive wheel to disengage from the frictional drive with another rotatable mechanism, such as a spooling device.
