The cassette also includes a dispensing apparatus that defines a passage and has a first activating device that opens the valve of the cassette. The dispensing apparatus also has a second activating member capable of establishing fluid communication with a medicant container. A method of mixing a powdered drug and a liquid includes establishing fluid communication between the reservoir and the medicant container, dispensing at least a portion of the liquid into the medicant container, and transferring the mixed drug into the reservoir. A method of filling a cassette includes the steps of introducing the drug into the cassette, closing a first access port, evacuating the inner reservoir through a second access port, and introducing the drug to fill the cassette through the first access port.

    摘要: Disclosed is an infusion pump for expelling a fluid from a collapsible fluid reservoir to a patient. The pump includes a housing having a chamber therein for receiving the fluid reservoir. A first wall is provided on the housing for contacting the fluid reservoir, and a second wall is movable from a first position distanced from the first wall to form the chamber therebetween, and a second position relatively closer to the first wall. Advancing the movable wall from the first position to the second position expels fluid from the collapsible reservoir at a substantially constant rate by applying increasing force on the fluid reservoir through the dispensation cycle. Preferably, the first and second walls are provided with non-planar complementary surface configurations for contacting the collapsible reservoir. Retraction mechanisms for retracting the movable wall from the second position to the first position, and user readable indicium of the status of the dispensation cycle are also disclosed.

By constructing the cannula in a circuitous configuration and dynamically connecting it to the base assembly, movement of the cannula relative to the base assembly is permitted thereby minimizing needle related tissue necrosis. The heat-expandable mass which is heated by the patient's body temperature in a manner to controllably expel fluid from the device uniquely functions to provide a conformable ullage within the reservoir of the device which will effectively avoid extended flow delivery rate trail-off at the end of the fluid delivery period. Further, the heat expandable mass can be specifically tailored to provide precise, predictable protocol delivery of the medicinal agent stored within the reservoir of the device.

    摘要: An intraparenchymal infusion catheter system for delivering drugs or other agents to selected sites in an organism, such as a human, includes a pump that may be implanted or disposed outside the organism. A catheter is coupled to the pump. The catheter comprises a flexible biocompatible tubular portion terminating in a free distal end. The distal end of the catheter bears a rounded tip, a portion of which is slidably disposed within the lumen of the tubular portion. The tip is porous for discharging an agent or drug to a selected site. The tip has a microporosity of less than or equal to 0.22 microns. The tubular portion is composed from a material that will expand from its nominal size when exposed to a stimulus such as heat or a solvent and return to its nominal size when the stimulus is withdrawn. By expanding the tubular portion, a physician can select the amount of the tip that is exposed to the organism, thereby customizing the catheter to the structural size of the selected site within the body.

    摘要: A portable, ambulatory infusion pump for use with standard pre-filled infusion medicament containers is powered by a miniature compressed gas cylinder coupled to a mechanical pressure regulator which supplies regulated gas at a substantially constant pressure to an inflatable bladder. The bladder is positioned between a substantially rigid pressure surface and a moveable pressure transfer plate and pushes against the transfer plate when inflated. A pre-filled medicament container is positioned over the pressure transfer plate and is squeezed between the transfer plate and the pump housing cover as the plate is displaced in response to inflation of the flexible bladder. A safety interlock assembly is connected between the pressure regulator and the inflatable bladder and prevents inflation of the bladder unless the housing cover is completely closed. Upon inadvertent opening of the pump, the internal pressurization system is vented to atmosphere.
