摘要： A mechanical press having a wet or oil shear clutch/brake drive unit is provided including elimination of undamped clearances. Lubrication oil utilized in the press flywheel bearing is ported and communicated into the clutch brake unit for use therein, eliminating the use of two separate lubrication or oil transport systems. A hydrostatic oil bearing on the brake/clutch actuator member (actuation plate) eliminates the use or need of an anti-friction bearing between the actuator member and the brake and clutch members.

摘要： A drive unit for a press uses an oil shear brake unit and an oil shear clutch unit. The actuation of the brake unit and the clutch unit occurs simultaneously due to a common activation member. The oil cooling system for the drive unit feeds oil to the outer radial or circumferential portion of the drive and returns oil for the central portion of the drive. The reverse flow of oil provides a more consistent supply of cooling oil to remove heat and lubricate the various components of the drive unit to significantly improve the operating performance of the drive.

摘要： A control system for a press having a clutch and a brake includes a clutch control valve and a brake control valve. The clutch control valve operates the clutch by supplying pressurized air to the clutch. The brake control valve operates the brake by supplying pressurized hydraulic fluid to the brake. The brake control valve is activated by pressurized fluid from the clutch control valve in order to insure simultaneous release of the brake with engagement of the clutch as well as simultaneous application of the brake with disengagement of the clutch.

摘要： A clutch and brake system for starting and stopping a power press uses hydraulically actuated brake and clutch mechanisms. To start the press, the brake is hydraulically released while the clutch is hydraulically engaged at a predetermined intermediate torque level which is less than the full clutch torque level. The clutch is maintained at that intermediate torque level until the present drive shaft has attained its substantially full speed, and is then increased to the full clutch torque level. To stop the press, the clutch is hydraulically disengaged while the brake is hydraulically engaged at a predetermined intermediate torque level which is less than the full brake torque level. The brake is maintained at this intermediate torque level until the press drive shaft has substantially stopped, at which time the brake torque is increased to the full brake torque level.

摘要： A safety brake for use on presses that provides a positive stop which is positioned so that its braking surfaces will be engaged if the press overtravels its normal home position due to failure of the standard clutch and brake system of the press. The braking surfaces of the emergency brake are moved to a released position when the press is energized to begin a cycle of its operation. Once the released braking surfaces have passed by each other during the normal cycle of press operation, they are returned to their braking positions so as to preclude overtravel of the press past its home position to any substantial degree if the conventional brake of the press should fail.

摘要： A combined clutch and double-action braking device for use in intermittently operating machines having a rotational driving shaft and a separate driven shaft, clutch or coupling disks secured to the driving shaft, and two braking disks fixedly arranged on a stationary holder, the device comprising a supporting disk secured to the driven shaft and defining a peripheral part and an intermediate part, the peripheral part projecting between the two braking disks, the intermediate part being extended to form two opposite tubular spaces divided by a fixed partition and each having an axially movable wall portion forming a pressure disk sealingly closing the assigned space; in rest condition, pressure springs resiliently urge each pressure disk against an assigned braking disk, whereas in actuated position pressure fluid is applied into the spaces to disengage the pressure disks from the braking disks and for urging one of the pressure disks against the coupling disk.
