Abstract:
The disclosure relates to a method of producing interiorly sterile, cup or beaker shaped containers. A starting material for the containers is produced by mixing inorganic filler with a thermoformable polymer material in such a mixing ratio that the quantity of filler in the produced starting material is at least 40% of the total weight of the mixture. The starting material is extruded into a continuous web which is heated to a temperature suitable for thermoforming of the web, at least 190.degree. C., and is fed into a forming machine of conventional type for thermoforming of the web under vacuum at the above-mentioned temperature for forming web-like continuous, interiorly sterile, cup or beaker shaped containers. The containers are finally separated from one another by incisions in the web regions between the opening contours of each respective container.
Abstract:
An apparatus for aseptically filling a pack, held in position by a pack support which is designed for sealing the filled pack, has a filling head housing part encompassing and defining a filling head space for receiving and delivering fluid to be filled in the pack. A vertically displaceable valve, which has a valve opening and closure element which is positioned in the filling head space and which extends to and terminates in a cutting means for cutting a membrane of a pack to be filled, controls delivery and regulates the flow rate of the fluid to be filled in a pack from a fluid inlet and outlet pipe. An inlet valve and an outlet emptying valve connected to a bottom of lateral walls of the filling head space provide a sterilizing medium to the filling head space and remove it and any residual fluid from the filling head space.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an arrangment for the continuous heat treatment and packaging of a liquid product with the object of sterilizing the product, the product being heated for a short time together with, and surrounded by, the packing material wherein it is to be enclosed. The product is introduced into a tube of flexible material whereupon the tube containing the product is introduced between two parallel metal bands, movable synchronously in their longitudinal direction, the tube being received and compressed between the bands so that the tube is transported with the bands at the same time as the cross-sectional area of the tube is reduced and the product is made to flow forward through the compressed tube in a gaplike space. Heat is transmitted to the product with the help of the metal bands (1) while the product present between the metal bands is kept under pressure. After the heating required for sterilization, the product is cooled and while it is still in the tube, is made to emerge and be freed from the metal bands, whereupon the tube and the product are divided into individual packing units through repeated transverse sealing of the tube.
Abstract:
A device for disinfecting the gap between two relatively movable elements such as a shaft and housing wherein a gap is defined by those elements and the gap contains a gaseous medium which is heated by an adjacent heating loop to provide a germicidal barrier in the gap.
Abstract:
A plastic container containing an infusion solution which may not allow deterioration of the infusion solution over a long period of time, is prepared by providing a container which is made of a flexible plastic material having a heat resistance able to withstand heat of autoclaving sterilization and which holds an infusion solution containing components which may easily deteriorate upon contact with oxygen; the container is packaged with a first packaging material which consists of a plastic material having a gas permeability and a heat resistance able to withstand the heat of autoclaving sterilization. The container packaged with the first packaging material is sterilized by autoclaving in an atmosphere of saturated steam containing substantially no oxygen. The packaged and sterilized container is cooled while substantially maintaining a pressure of autoclaving sterilization by introducing an inert gas into the atmosphere. The container is further packaged with a second packaging material which has a high oxygen gas impermeability.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a novel duplex pouch structure which provides an improved means to package and process retortable foods and also provides a mechanically superior package which can be transported with only moderate protection, and yet will sustain minimal damage.
Abstract:
A food product, such as fruit or vegetables either whole or in pieces, or in the form of a pulp, or meat in pieces, is preserved by feeding hot liquid or steam into a contained body of the product to sterilize the product. Some liquid is retained in the product which is sealed in a container under aseptic conditions. The sterilization preferably takes place in the container in which the sterile product is ultimately sealed.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for continuously processing filled containers with liquid heat treatment mediums maintained under superatmospheric pressure by an overriding air pressure. A minimum of liquid is used during processing with the liquid level being maintained above the containers at all times. The liquid is controllably circulated through container filled tunnels defined within carts, from one end of the tunnel to the other, to assure equal heat treatment of all containers in the batch of containers in each tunnel. The carts may either be non-agitating or agitating carts. One embodiment of the continuous pressure cooker and cooler includes a pressure vessel having two pressure locks to provide a pressure cooking chamber with high pressure cooling being performed in a mini-cooler defined by the outlet pressure lock followed by additional atmospheric cooling. Another embodiment of the invention comprises three pressure lock means to positively divide the pressure vessel into cooking and cooling chambers; and a third embodiment substitutes a plurality of baffles for the intermediate pressure lock thereby effectively dividing the pressure vessel into a cooking chamber and cooling chamber.
Abstract:
Apparatus for conditioning sterile liquid products in a continuous tubular pack comprises an enclosure containing means for sterilizing a web of material intended to form the pack, means in the enclosure for forming the web into a tube and means for filling the tube with a sterile liquid product. The enclosure is capable of resisting an internal pressure of hot water at 120.degree. C of at least 3 kg/cm.sup.2 and is provided with means for temporarily sealing an inlet slot through which the web can be fed into the enclosure, and an outlet slot through which the tube can leave the enclosure.
