The invention relates to a roll bending device for the control of profile and flatness in the rolling of metal plates or strips. In particular the invention relates to the well known principle of roll bending by using hydraulic cylinders to modify the load distribution between rolls of a rolling mill stand and a rolled stock e.g. a metal plate or a strip in order to control the profile and flatness of the metal plate or strip. A special design to allow safe roll bending even at large roll gauges is presented. The new design allows safe operation even at large roll gauges and high side loads.

A feeder is provided for a punch. The feeder includes a feeding unit, a bending unit and a transferring unit. The feeding unit feeds a roll of a metal strip that includes a leading edge. The bending unit includes a plate for bending the metal strip, a sensor for generating at least one signal on detecting the arrival of the leading edge of the metal strip at the plate and a controller for actuating the plate on receiving the signal. The transferring unit transfers the metal strip to another unit of the punch.

This invention provides a bending roll apparatus capable of preventing barrel-like deformation of a pipe occurring during a roll bending work and of manufacturing a small diameter elongated pipe. In an apparatus for manufacturing a pipe by pushing rolls to a core roll, feeding a metal sheet to their contact portions and performing a bending work, the bending roll apparatus comprises a core roll formed of a metal and a plurality of push rolls having a surface portion thereof formed of an elastic material and disposed around the core roll. The invention further provides, in a bending roll apparatus, a core roll formed of a metal, a plurality of push rolls formed of a metal and disposed around the core roll, and holding the core roll when a metal sheet is bent, and a guide belt formed of an elastic material, interposed between the core roll and each of the push rolls, contacting on a core roll surface on a side opposite to an entry side of the metal sheet and driven in synchronism with the core roll.

The method comprises the steps of advancing the web axially of its length by bowing the web in the same direction of desired bowing in the piece-part, laterally and/or axially of the web length, operable to impart set bows in the web slightly in excess of the desired finished piece-parts bowing, passing the bowed continuous web through a conventional stamping press, clamping and substantially flattening the bowed web between flat faces of cooperating die block and stripper plate components of the stamping press and stamping the clamped web between cooperating punch and die assemblies to deform the web to the desired configurations of the finished piece-parts.

In order to manufacture a pipe having a plurality of flow channels, by minimizing die jigs and steps, and thus to permit facilitation of manufacture, reduction of cost, and improvement of accuracy, the method of manufacturing a pipe comprises the steps of holding a sheet material at a center portion in the width direction thereof from both surfaces thereof by core members composing a split structure, folding both sides in the width direction of the sheet material in opposite directions and causing the thus folded both sides of the sheet material to follow the shapes of the outer surfaces of the core members, thereby forming a substantially an S-shaped cross-section. In a preferred embodiment, the method comprises the steps of providing outer dies, each of which has a concave surface substantially identical with the outer surface of one of the core members, and folds one of both ends of the sheet material toward the outer surface of the core member by the outer die while moving the outer die toward the core member.
