Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a container that can store developer; an apparatus body by which the container is detachably supported; a detection portion, for determining an installed state of the container, provided for the apparatus body; and a control portion determining whether the container is unused based on a detection result by the detection portion. The container includes a displaceable member displaced between an initial position where the displaceable member is not detected by the detection portion and a detection position where the displaceable member is detected by the detection portion. When the container is in an initial installation state immediately after being installed in the apparatus body, the control portion determines the container is unused in a case where the displaceable member is not detected by the detection portion, and determines the container is used in a case where the displaceable member is detected by the detection portion.

Abstract: The drying apparatus includes a conveying belt and a heating unit. The heating unit includes a blower fan, a rectifying member, a heater, and a reflecting plate. The rectifying member is arranged on the downstream side of the blower fan in the blowing direction of the blower fan and includes one or more first through holes. The heater is arranged on the downstream side of the rectifying member in the blowing direction to radiate infrared rays in all directions. The reflecting plate is arranged between the rectifying member and the heater, includes one or more second through holes, and reflects the infrared rays radiated from the heater to the side of the conveying belt. The one or more first through holes are formed in a portion other than a portion where the infrared rays passing through the one or more second through holes of the reflecting plate are radiated.

Abstract: A printing system includes a printing device, a color management server, and a client device. An estimated ink use is determined for a print job within printing system. After printing operations, a baseline average ink use is determined for a set of printed pages of the print job. If the baseline average ink use varies from the estimated ink use, then a corrective action is taken to adjust ink use to be closer to the estimated ink use. The corrective action is a global corrective action for the entire document of the print job or a targeted action that adjusts only specified features or pages of the document.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a cover portion and an auxiliary tray. The cover portion is displaced between a closing position for closing the supply port and an opening position for opening the supply port. The auxiliary tray is attached to a sheet stack surface of the cover portion, and supports the sheet, together with the cover portion at the opening position. The auxiliary tray is, either in a first attachment state or in a second attachment state, attached to the cover portion. In the first attachment state, a longitudinal direction of the auxiliary tray extends along a width direction that crosses a sheet insertion direction and the auxiliary tray is stored in the sheet stack surface. In the second attachment state, the longitudinal direction extends along the sheet insertion direction, and the auxiliary tray extends out from the cover portion toward an upstream in the sheet insertion direction.

Abstract: A transfer unit includes first and second rollers, first and second bearing members, a roller holder, first and second urging members, a switching cam, and a driving mechanism. The switching cam includes first and second guide holes with which first and second engaging portions formed on the first and second bearing members engage. The first and second guide holes are formed, each in an approximately arcuate shape, at positions at different distances from the rotation center of the switching cam. By rotating the roller holder, one of the first and second rollers is arranged opposite an image carrying member and, by rotating the switching cam, the first or second roller arranged opposite the image carrying member is arranged selectively either at a reference position where the first or second roller is in pressed contact with the image carrying member or at a released position.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming part, a fixing device, a fixing temperature sensor, a drive device, a printed sheet number counting part, a fixing voltage power supply, a controller, and an apparatus external temperature sensor. The controller can perform a cooling mode in which, when a number of continuous printed sheets at a reference speed exceeds an upper limit number, a number of printed sheets per unit time is gradually decreased to suppress an increase of an apparatus internal temperature. The controller sets the upper limit number based on a temperature difference between the fixing temperature detected by the fixing temperature sensor and the apparatus external temperature detected by the apparatus external temperature sensor.

Abstract: A developing device includes a developing container storing a two-component developer, a developer carrying member, and a regulation member. The developer carrying member includes a developing sleeve, and a magnet having a regulation pole opposite the regulation member and a main pole opposite the image carrying member. The regulation member is arranged downstream of the position at which the vertical magnetic force of the regulation pole is 0 [mT] but upstream of a position at which the vertical and horizontal magnetic forces of the regulation pole are equal. Let the horizontal magnetic force gradient at the position at which the horizontal magnetic force of the main pole is 0 [mT] be A and the horizontal magnetic force gradient at the upstream-side surface of the regulation member along the rotation direction of the developing sleeve be B, then |A|>2.45 and |B|

Abstract: A printing system includes a printing device having a digital front end (DFE) and at least one client device that sends print jobs to the printing device. The DFE stores a device capability file that sets forth device and print options available for the printing device. The print options include a priority value, an option type, a grouping option, a print option icon, and a preview overlay graphic. A copy of the device capability file is made available to a client application on the client device. The client application retrieves all the print information from the device capability file. The client application also presents and previews the print options using the appropriate preview graphic overlay.
