Abstract:
An online sales/automatic rebate and coupon redemption system provides online customers automatic retrieval and redemption of all applicable rebates and coupons during purchase. Purchase orders from customers are selectively fulfilled and products are shipped to the customers either by the system for online sales with automatic rebate and coupon redemption or by other merchant or manufacturer environments. The system purchases from merchants using applicable coupons and rebates and then sells the products to the customers, passing the savings to them. The system makes it possible to automatically retrieve coupons and rebates for items in a shopping cart during the activity of an online purchase at an electronic mall or an online merchant site. The system provides coupons to potential customers via email, based on customer profile, geographical information, etc. Manufacturers and merchants can update coupon value and content based on ongoing sales and volume of customer activity.
Abstract:
A system for handling calls using simulcasting of multimedia information via a gateway device communicatively coupled to a wide area network, the system including at least one processor for use in an access device, the at least one processor arranged to communicate to the wide area network using at least one wireless interface of the access device, the at least one processor operable to, at least associate the access device with the gateway device; communicate multimedia and call information with the wideband network using the at least one wireless interface; send, to the gateway device via the wide area network, a request to record the call information communicated during a call over the wide area network; and receive, from the gateway device via the broadband network, acceptance of the request to record the call information, if resources needed for recording the call information communicated during the call are available.
Abstract:
A search engine server supports delivery of search results using an international search string option by identifying websites that provide support in English as well as the language of the international search string. The international search string is a search string in any of the languages that are listed/supported by the search engine server. The search engine server delivers web links of websites that provide support in both English as well the language of the international search string by identifying conjugate English terms, strings or phrases for the international search string, that provide exact or approximate equivalent meaning for searching. In addition, the search engine server also provides web links of websites that provide international language support by utilizing a thesaurus in English that provides synonyms for the conjugate English terms. The search engine server also translates websites where there is no support in the language of the search string.
Abstract:
A wireless network in a communication infrastructure has a packet switched backbone network and includes a plurality of access points and services at least one client device. The access points communicatively couple to the packet switched backbone network and each include access point processing circuitry and access point wireless transceiver circuitry. Each client device has client processing circuitry and client wireless transceiver circuitry. The client devices receive transmissions from other client devices serviced by the plurality of access points and characterize the received transmissions to determine signal qualities of the plurality of transmissions received from the other client devices. The client devices then report the signal qualities of the plurality of transmissions to at least one of the plurality of access points. The access points may forward the signal qualities to other access points, to other client devices, and may alter operation of the wireless network based upon the signal qualities.
Abstract:
A first plurality of characteristics are received from a first client device relating to transmissions received by the first client device from both an access point and a second client device. A second plurality of characteristics are received from the second client device relating to transmissions received by the second client device from both the access point and the first client device. The first plurality of characteristics and the second plurality of characteristics are both assessed. Based on the assessment, a least one of a plurality of customized power levels is selected for transmissions by the access point to the first client device and the second client device.
Abstract:
Adaptive multi-standard video coder supporting adaptive standard selection and mid-stream switch-over. Automatic or semi-automatic selection and reselection between various respective communication protocols or standards (e.g., or profiles of such protocols or standards, subsets of such protocols or standards, etc.) may be made based on any of a number of local and/or remote considerations. For example, characteristics associated with one or more other devices, communication links, communication networks, etc. within a communication system may direct the automatic or semiautomatic selection and reselection between such communication protocols or standards (e.g., or profiles thereof, or subsets thereof, etc.). Also, characteristics associated with local operating conditions (e.g., available processing resources, available memory, etc.) this may be used in accordance with making such selection and reselection. Moreover, consideration may be made with respect to which communication protocol/standard provides relative benefit over others based on a given communication systems present capabilities and conditions.
Abstract:
A wireless access point selects its own transmission power for different types of the transmissions. The access point transmits to client devices at reduced power levels, however, periodic beacons and other selected non-beacon transmissions can be transmitted at a high power level to facilitate association by other client devices.
Abstract:
A wireless terminal displays its location and navigation information (map segment) on its display. The wireless terminal accesses a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver of the wireless terminal to determine its location coordinates. The wireless terminal determines a maximum data size for navigation information to be downloaded. The wireless terminal sends a navigation information download request to a map server via a supporting wireless network infrastructure that includes the location coordinates and the maximum data size. The wireless terminal receives navigation information that has a data size no greater than the maximum data size and displays the navigation information on the display. The wireless terminal may display a map segment and an icon representing the wireless terminal at a location corresponding to the location coordinates of the wireless terminal with respect to the map segment. The wireless terminal may download a premises map from a premises map server.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a network infrastructure operable to support the exchange of communications, such as textual, image, video and voice communications, between a first client terminal having a first user identifier and service by a first service provider and a second (destination) client terminal having a second user identifier and serviced by a second service provider. This network infrastructure includes a packet-switch network, a shared database and a number of client terminals serviced by different service providers. These terminals include a network interface and are identified by their service provider by a network address. The shared database associates user identifiers with network addresses. This allows a user to access the shared database in order to initiate a call request from the first client terminal to the second client terminal. The first client terminal receives the network address or vectoring information on the network address of the destination terminal through the shared database. This shared database may also have metadata used to manage the call.
Abstract:
Handover of call serviced by modular ear-piece/microphone between servicing base portions is presented. A wireless headset includes wireless interface(s), earpiece, a microphone, processing module, and a user interface. The wireless interface(s) wirelessly couples the wireless headset to a base unit via a wireless personal area network (WPAN). The earpiece renders inbound portions of the service calls audible while the microphone is operable to produce the outbound portion of the call. Both the earpiece and microphone are communicatively coupled to the wireless interface(s). The processing module also coupled to the wireless interface(s) allows the wireless headset to initiate call functions between the wireless headset and a servicing network made available through the base unit, service a call and call control functions, and anchor the call to the wireless headset. The user interface in conjunction with the processing module allows the wireless headset to initiate commands and/or call control functions based upon user input.
