    Abstract: A rotor system includes a rotor duct; at least one rotor blade that includes an outboard end; a tip extension mechanism affixed at the outboard end of the at least one rotor blade, the tip extension mechanism including at least one shim, the at least one rotor blade with the tip extension mechanism affixed thereto including an extended rotor blade; and a blade tip affixed to an outboard end of the extended rotor blade, wherein the blade tip is affixed to the extended rotor blade via at least one removable fastener.

    Abstract: In certain embodiments, a method includes forming a battery electrode on a substrate. Forming the battery electrode on the substrate includes depositing a first electrode active material layer on a first portion of a surface of the substrate and depositing, to form a current collector, a conductive material using a thin film deposition process on a surface of the first electrode active material layer. The conductive material is deposited over an edge of the first electrode active material layer and onto a second portion of the surface of the substrate, the second portion of the substrate being adjacent to the first portion of the substrate. The method includes removing the battery electrode from the substrate, the battery electrode including the first electrode active material layer and the current collector.

    Abstract: In an embodiment, a method of automatically generating an inspection program includes receiving input data related to an object to be inspected. The input data includes geometric dimensioning and tolerancing data for the object. The method also includes, for each of a plurality of surfaces of the object, generating at least one inspection direction and a plurality of inspection points based, at least in part, on the geometric dimensioning and tolerancing data. The method also includes generating transitional motions for an inspection machine to inspect the plurality of surfaces according to the inspection directions and the inspection points. The method also includes storing, at a destination, machine-readable code for inspecting the object according to the at least one inspection direction of each of the plurality of surfaces, the inspection points of each of the plurality of surfaces, and the transitional motions.

    Abstract: Embodiments are directed to systems and methods for utilizing a two-degree-of-freedom model-following control law within an architecture of nested loop functions. This allows for the separation of command and feedback path requirements and enables the restrictions of the inner loops to be applied to the outer loop feedbacks.     Abstract: A duct for a ducted-rotor aircraft includes a hub, a duct ring, and a plurality of stators that extend outward from the hub. The duct ring defines a trailing edge. The duct includes one or more fittings, such as a system of fittings. Each fitting has a body that defines a first attachment interface that is configured to couple to structure of the duct ring and a second attachment interface that is configured to couple to one of the plurality of stators. The first and second attachment interfaces are spaced from each other such that when the fittings are coupled to the duct ring and the plurality of stators, all or substantially all of each of the plurality of stators are located aft of the trailing edge of the duct ring.

    Abstract: One embodiment is an aircraft operable in a hover mode and a cruise mode and including a fuselage; wings connected on opposite sides of the fuselage; a canard connected to the fuselage forward of the wings; forward propulsion systems connected to a trailing edge of the canard on opposite sides of the fuselage; aft propulsion systems connected to trailing edges of the wings; and wing-mounted propulsion systems connected to leading edges of the wings. The aft propulsion systems are tiltable between a first position when the aircraft is in the hover mode and a second position when the aircraft is in the cruise mode. Each of the propulsion systems includes a rotor assembly comprising a plurality of rotor blades. The propulsion systems are substantially equidistant from a center of gravity (CG) of the aircraft.
