Abstract:
A shielded electrical ribbon cable includes a plurality of conductor sets. Each conductor set is surrounded by a shield and includes two insulated conductors. First and second non-conductive polymeric layers are disposed on opposite sides of the cable. The polymeric layers include cover portions and pinched portions. The cover portions surround the plurality of conductor sets, and the pinched portions form pinched portions on each side of the cable. The cable includes a transition portion on each side of the cable. At least one of the polymeric layers has a radius of curvature of at least 50 microns across an entire width of the cable. For at least one of the polymeric layers, the ratio of the minimum radius of curvature in the cover portions to the minimum radius of curvature in the transition portions is from 2 to 15.
Abstract:
A shielded cable includes a plurality of conductor sets. Each conductor set is substantially surrounded by a shield and includes two insulated conductors. The plurality of conductor sets includes adjacent first and second conductor sets. First and second non-conductive polymeric layers are disposed on opposite sides of the cable and include cover portions and pinched portions. The cover portions in combination substantially surround the plurality of conductor sets. The pinched portions in combination form pinched portions on each side of the cable. A first conductor of the first conductor set is nearest the second conductor set, and a second conductor of the second conductor set is nearest the first conductor set. The first and second conductors have a spacing S and respective outer dimensions D1 and D2. S/Dmin is from 1.7 to 2. Dmin is the lesser of D1 and D2.
Abstract:
A shielded electrical ribbon cable includes adjacent first and second longitudinal conductor sets where each conductor set includes two or more insulated conductors. The first conductor set also includes a ground conductor that generally lies in the plane of the insulated conductors of the first conductor set. At least 90% of the periphery of each conductor set is encompassed by a shielding film. First and second non-conductive polymeric films are disposed on opposite sides of the cable and form cover portions substantially surrounding each conductor set, and pinched portions on each side of each conductor set. When the cable is laid flat, the distance between the center of the ground conductor of the first conductor set and the center of the nearest insulated conductor of the second conductor set is σ1, the center-to-center spacing of the insulated conductors of the second conductor set is σ2, and σ1/σ2 is greater than 0.7.
Abstract:
An edge insulated electrical cable including an electrical cable having opposing uppermost and lowermost surfaces and a conductive material near a longitudinal edge of the cable. The conductive material is susceptible to making electrical contact at the longitudinal edge. An edge insulation structure is applied to the electrical cable covering the edge and portions of the upper most and lowermost surfaces.
Abstract:
A cable (2100) includes one or more conductor sets, one or more dielectric unitary blocks (2102) or reservoirs, first and second conductive shielding films (2108) disposed on opposite first and second sides of the conductor sets and the dielectric blocks (2102) or reservoirs, and an adhesive layer (2140). The shielding films (2108) include cover portions and pinched portions arranged such that, in cross-section, the cover portions of the shielding films in combination substantially surround each conductor set and each unitary block (2102) or reservoir, and the pinched portions of the shielding films in combination form pinched portions of the cable on each side of the conductor set and on at least one side of the unitary block (2102) or the reservoir. The adhesive layer (2140) bonds the first shielding film to the second shielding film in the pinched portions of the cable.
Abstract:
A shielded electrical ribbon cable includes conductor sets each including one or more insulated conductors, and a first and second shielding film on opposite sides of the cable. In transverse cross section, cover portions of the shielding films substantially surround each conductor set, and pinched portions of the films form pinched portions of the cable on each side of each conductor set. Dense packing is achieved while maintaining high frequency electrical isolation between conductor sets. When the cable is laid flat, a quantity S/Dmin is in a range from 1.7 to 2, where S is a center-to-center spacing between nearest insulated conductors of two adjacent conductor sets, and Dmin is the lesser of the outer dimensions of such nearest insulated conductors. Alternatively, a first and second conductor set each having only one pair of insulated conductors can satisfy a condition that Σ/σ1 is in a range from 2.5 to 3. Other shielded cables, systems, and methods, which may or may not utilize the dense packing, are also disclosed.
