Abstract: A head-up display and a system and method of operating a head-up display. The head-up display includes a prism, an imager and a camera. The prism has a first surface and a second surface. An infrared-reflective coating on the second surface of the prism has a maximum reflectivity at a selected wavelength. The imager is configured to project a hologram into the prism via the first surface, out of the prism via the second surface, through the infrared-reflective coating and into an eyebox. The camera is configured to receive an eye tracking beam from the eyebox that is reflected from the infrared-reflective coating. A processor determines eye information from the eye tracking beam and adjusts a parameter of the hologram based on the eye information.

Abstract: A ground line monitoring system includes a camera mounted in a first automobile vehicle. A waveguide directs a light into the camera having a first in-coupling grating receiving a first light imaging data and passing the first light imaging data as a first frequency of the light and a second in-coupling grating receiving a second light imaging data and passing the second light imaging data as a second frequency of the light. A color filter wheel receives the first frequency of the light and the second frequency of the light. An image sensor of the camera receives the first frequency of the light and the second frequency of the light at different times due to rotation of the color filter wheel. A controller performs a calculation using directions and angles of the first frequency of the light and the second frequency of the light to correct a camera image.

Abstract: A head-up display system includes a housing having an interior surface and defining a cavity configured for receiving a ray of light. The head-up display system also includes a lens disposed within the cavity and configured for reflecting the ray of light towards the interior surface. Further, the head-up display system includes a first cured film formed from a coating composition, disposed on the interior surface, and configured for absorbing a ray of light within the cavity. The head-up display system also includes a second deposited film formed by an ionized gas treatment of the first cured film. The second deposited film is configured for transmitting the ray of light to the first cured film to thereby minimize scatter of the ray of light within the cavity. A device including the head-up display system is also described.

Abstract: A direct-retina holographic projection system includes first and second spatial light modulators (SLMs) and a control module. The first SLM receives a beam of light and dithers the beam of light at a predetermined frequency to provide multiple instances of the beam of light. The second SLM receives the instances of the beam of light, displays an encoded phase hologram of a graphic image to be projected, and diffracts the instances of the beam of light to provide instances of the encoded phase hologram with the same graphic image but multiplied with dithered wavefronts. The control module: iteratively adjusts a parameter of the first SLM to generate the instances of the beam of light; and controls operation of the second SLM to, based on the instances of the beam of light, display multiple instances of the graphic image on a retina of an eye of a viewer.

Abstract: A method of vehicle navigation using terrain text recognition includes receiving, via an electronic controller arranged on a vehicle and having access to a map of the terrain, a navigation route through the terrain. The method also includes receiving, via the controller, a signal from a global positioning system (GPS) to determine a current position of the vehicle relative to the terrain. The method additionally includes determining, via the controller, a location of a next waypoint on the navigation route and relative to the current vehicle position. The method also includes detecting and communicating to the controller, via a vehicle sensor an image frame displaying a text indicative of the next waypoint and correlating, via the controller, the detected text to the next waypoint on the map. Furthermore, the method includes setting, via the controller, an in-vehicle alert indicative of the detected text having been correlated to the next waypoint.

In an exemplary embodiment, a system is provided that includes: (i) a camera configured to generate a camera image of an occupant for a vehicle; and (ii) a processor coupled to the camera and configured to at least facilitate: (a) performing one or more Fourier transforms of the camera image; and (b) identifying a location for an eye of the occupant of the vehicle, using a phase model generated via the one or more Fourier transforms.

A controller is configured to receive, from the image sensor, a HUD patch image, and to adjust the projected virtual image based upon the HUD patch image.
