An optical disc includes an information recording layer having a concentric or spiral track, and has a format for describing a track address, which is pre-recorded on the track or is to be added to data that is to be recorded on the information recording layer. The format includes layer information regarding the information recording layer and address information regarding the track address.

摘要： A clock signal generator according to the present invention includes: a wobble phase error detecting section for detecting a wobble phase error that is a difference in phase between a wobble signal, representing a wobbled shape of a track on an optical disk medium, and a clock signal; a data phase error detecting section for detecting a data phase error that is a difference in phase between a data signal, representing data that has been written on the optical disk medium, and the clock signal; a frequency control section for generating a frequency control signal to control the frequency of the clock signal based on the wobble phase error and the data phase error; and a clock oscillation section for generating the clock signal with its frequency controlled in accordance with the frequency control signal.

摘要： Even with an asymmetric reproduction waveform, or under the noisy environment, an accurate equalizing error is found and temporary judgment value for adaptively controlling the coefficient of FIR filter is accurately outputted. A waveform equalizer for equalizing a waveform of a reproduction signal obtained by reproducing marks and non-marks recorded on a recording medium is provided. The equalizer includes: a detector which detects asymmetry of the reproduction signal arising from physical profiles of the marks and non-marks and outputs a detection signal representing asymmetric amount; a discriminator which discriminates the marks and non-marks based on the reproduction signal to output a discriminated signal; and a selector which calculates a first and second coefficient multiplied by the reproduction signal of the marks and non-marks based on the detection signal, which are different. The selector selects one of the first and second coefficients based on the discriminating signal.

摘要： An optical disc drive usable with discs to which data is continuously recorded and discs having a sector format can quickly resume playback signal output after passing imperfection causing potential reading errors, and plays disc with few read errors. A detection signal generator detects DC level fluctuation in the playback signal read from the disc and generates a detection signal tracking the DC level fluctuation. A selector selects a detection signal or a null signal without valid polarity based on the detection signal generated by the detection signal generator and input to the selector. A clamping unit performs a clamping process to suppress DC level fluctuation in the playback signal based on the detection signal when the selection unit selects the detection signal, and does not perform the clamping process when the selection unit selects the null signal. A signal processor performs specific signal processes based on clamping unit output.

摘要： This optical read/write apparatus has first and second optical heads 2a, 2b and includes location control sections 4a, 4b which make the relative arrangement of the first and second optical heads 2a, 2b variable according to either the environmental temperature or from one medium to another. The apparatus further includes a nonvolatile memory which saves the relative arrangement of the first and second optical heads 2a and 2b either on an environmental temperature basis or on a medium by medium basis.
