A compact dielectric coaxial resonator is provided which includes a dielectric substance having a preselected length along the center line thereof, a groove formed in an end portion of the dielectric substance, a through hole, formed in the dielectric substance, extending through the center line of the dielectric substance, an outer conductive member provided around the periphery of the dielectric substance, and an inner conductive member provided over the groove and the through hole. The groove is exposed to the outside and defined around the center line of the dielectric substance. The through hole is defined to have a given length shorter than the preselected length of the dielectric substance for achieving a small-sized structure with a high unloaded Q which may be manufactured in a simple manner.

A Colpitts oscillator has an integrated circuit. The integrated circuit includes a transistor having an equivalent large size, a bypass capacitor connected between a collector of the transistor and a ground, a first feedback capacitor connected between a base and an emitter of the transistor, a second feedback capacitor connected between the emitter of the transistor and the ground, and an emitter follower connected to the emitter of the transistor. In a package, a stray reactance and a bonding wire are designed so as to agree with an element value and a Q value which can be used as parts of a resonator. A surface elastic wave resonator disposed outside the integrated circuit is connected between the base of the transistor and the ground. The oscillator is voltage controlled by a variable capacitance diode connected in series with the resonator.

A miniaturized circuit for high frequency operation is formed of four successively superimposed dielectric layers, with a microstrip resonance element being sandwiched between two inner dielectric layers which themselves are sandwiched between opposing ground plane layers, and the other dielectric layers being respectively formed upon these ground plane layers. Circuit connection patterns are formed on the outer faces of the latter dielectric layers, and circuit components mounted thereon to form two circuit sections. The microstrip resonance element can be utilized as an inductive reactance element of an oscillator circuit, or as a filter circuit resonator element, and is effectively shielded by the ground plane layers which also effectively mutually isolate the two circuit sections.

A coaxial dielectric resonator for VHF-UHF band comprises a generally cylindrical dielectric body having a thick portion, a thin portion and a stepped portion interposed between the thick and thin portion. The outer and inner surfaces of the dielectric body are respectively covered by outer and inner conductors. Thus the resonator can be regarded as a series circuit of two lines having different impedance from each other. The axial length of the thick and thin portions may be changed so as to change electrical characteristics. With the provision of thick and thin dielectric portions, the spurious resonance frequencies may be set to values other than integral multiples of the fundamental resonance frequency. The stepped portion may be rounded or replaced with a tapered portion so that impedance gradually changes at the stepped or tapered portion from the thick portion to the thin portion or vice versa.

Two conducting lines are arranged in a ring form in a TEM-mode transmission line. The end of one of the lines is connected to the end of the other line with opposite polarity, thus forming a resonator for resonation in a half-wavelength mode. This structure, free of line discontinuity which lowers the Q value, can provide a resonator having a high Q value equivalent to that of the one-wavelength resonator. Moreover, it is satisfactory to provide a half of a length of the one-wavelength resonator. Accordingly, the structure of the resonator has reduced size but little Q-value deterioration.

Therefore, a dielectric resonance antenna in which the hemispherical dielectric resonator and the dielectric wave-guiding channel are placed on the same metal substrate is obtained. A signal transmitting through the dielectric wave-guiding channel is fed in the hemispherical dielectric resonator, the hemispherical dielectric resonator is resonated, and an electromagnetic wave is radiated. Therefore, the dielectric resonance antenna functions as a wave radiation device.

Each of the resonators has a one-wavelength square-shaped strip line and four open-end transmission lines connected to four coupling points A,C,B and D (or E,G,F and H) of each resonator which are spaced 90 degrees in electric length in that order. The square-shaped strip lines have a pair of parallel coupling lines closely placed in parallel to each other to electromagnetically couple the resonators. Therefore, the filter can be manufactured in a small size. A first microwave resonated in each resonator is electromagnetically influenced by two open-end transmission lines connected to two coupling points A and B (or E and F), and a second microwave resonated in each resonator is electromagnetically influenced by two open-end transmission lines connected to two coupling points C and D (or G and H). Therefore, resonance wavelengths of the microwaves can be longer than a line length of each square-shaped strip line. Also, the resonance wavelengths can be adjusted by trimming the transmission lines. Also, because all constitutional elements are made of strip lines, the filter can be made plane.
