    摘要： Disclosed is a coating composition which crosslinks upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The coating composition comprises: (A) from 1 to 5 percent of a saturated, chlorinated polymeric material selected from the group consisting of (1) a chlorinated polyolefin containing about 5 to 75 percent by weight of chlorine and having a number average molecular weight of about 5,000-50,000, (2) a chlorinated polyolefin containing carboxylic anhydride groups and about 5 to 25 percent by weight of chlorine and having a number average molecular weight of about 5,000-50,000, and (3) a mixture thereof; (B) from 20 to 80 percent of a radiation sensitive monomer having at least two addition polymerizable unsaturated bonds; (C) from 0.1 to 5.0 percent of a photopolymerization initiator; and (D) from 80 to 20 percent of an acrylic addition polymer having at least one amino group and having a number average molecular weight of about 8,000-70,000.Also disclosed is a method of coating comprising: (I) applying to a plastic substrate a film of coating composition of the invention; and (II) curing the film by exposing the film to ultraviolet radiation.Also disclosed is a plastic article having directly adhered to a surface thereof, a crosslinked film produced by the method of the invention.

    摘要： A process of making modified epoxy resins wherein a polyepoxide resin is reacted with a mercaptan compound of the formula HS--R--(COOX).sub.m wherein R is an organic radical having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, X is hydrogen or a moiety formed by reacting the carboxyl group with a basic compound to form its salt and m is an integer of from 1 to 5. The compounds are reacted in the presence of a tin catalyst to produce resins of the structureB [--S--R--(COOX).sub.m ].sub.nwherein B is the residue from the ring opening reaction of an epoxide group on the polyepoxide resin molecule and the sulfhydryl hydrogen, R, X and m are as defined previously and n is at least 1. The aforementioned resins are produced without the need of a hydrolysis step.The modified epoxy resins are useful in formulating coating compositions having excellent physical and chemical properties. The resins can be dissolved or dispersed in water to form aqueous coating compositions.

    摘要： An aqueous based coating composition contains a polymeric film-forming resin and as an additive from about 1 to about 40 percent by weight based on the resin solids of the composition of an oligomeric ester having an acid value of from about 100 to about 500 of the structure: ##STR1## where X is the residue of a polyol containing from 1 to 50 carbon atoms per hydroxyl group after reaction with an acid or an anhydride, R is an organic moiety from the acid or anhydride and A has an average value of about 2 or greater.The coating compositions are particularly advantageous as metallic pigmented coating compositions for automotive basecoat applications because they exhibit excellent resistance to mottling, have good flop and have reduced sensitivity to fluctuations in relative humidity.

    摘要： A protective and decorative polymeric sheet material for bonding to substrates by thermoforming comprises a flexible carrier film, a paint layer on one surface of the carrier film containing a colorant or light reflective flakes or both; and a transparent topcoat overlying the paint layer. At least a portion of the transparent topcoat is a rubbery cushioning layer formed of a non-crosslinked, or lightly crosslinked polymeric composition of low Tg.The sheet material has an unextended state and is heat softenable to a plastic state in which it is extendable to an extended state at least 50% greater in area than the unextended state. The paint and topcoat layers have substantially uniform quality and appearance in both the unextended and extended states. In a preferred embodiment, the thickness of the transparent topcoat is at least 0.1 millimeter. The thick topcoat provides improved retention of gloss and distinctness of image when the sheet material is stretched. As compared with sheet material of which the topcoat layer consists entirely of crosslinked polymer of relatively high Tg, the sheet material of the invention shows a reduced tendency to peel back from the substrate when cut and subjected to high temperature.
