Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a multi-core optical fiber that can prevent an increase in bending loss even when a distance between a peripheral core and a cladding boundary is decreased, and can improve a bending loss characteristic in a state where an influence on a cutoff wavelength and a mode field diameter is small, and a design method thereof.
The multi-core optical fiber according to the present invention is an optical fiber in which two or more core regions are arranged in a cladding region having a refractive index lower than a refractive index of the core at a minimum core interval, a ring-shaped low refractive index region surrounding the core and having a refractive index lower than the refractive index of the cladding region is provided, a bending loss after the provision of the ring-shaped low refractive index region is reduced as compared with a characteristic in a case where the ring-shaped low refractive index region is not provided, and at the same time, a change in mode field diameter after the provision of the ring-shaped low refractive index region is not changed as compared with a characteristic in a case where the ring-shaped low refractive index region is not provided.-

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an ultraviolet light irradiation sheet that can be decontaminated regardless of a shape of an object to be decontaminated. An ultraviolet light irradiation sheet (50) includes an optical fiber (20) which emits a part of propagating light from a side surface or an end surface; and a deformable sheet (10) which incorporates the optical fiber (20). The ultraviolet light irradiation sheet uniformly or partially irradiates ultraviolet light from a sheet surface. Therefore, by covering the object to be sterilized with the ultraviolet light irradiation sheet, a material having a complicated shape or an amorphous shape can be irradiated with the ultraviolet light without making a shade. Since the ultraviolet light irradiation sheet does not diffuse bacteria and viruses by wind, the sterilization of the object to be sterilized can be performed without forming a closed space.

An optical fiber is thin, has many length options, and is flexible. With these features of the optical fiber, the optical fiber can be routed inside of, for example, an automatic teller machine to irradiate the banknotes moving inside the device with ultraviolet light.-

An optical transmission system according to the present disclosure includes a transmitter which transmits an optical signal representing a cryptographic key and an optical signal representing communication data individually, an optical transmission path including a heterogeneous multi-core optical fiber having multiple cores, at least one of which has a different propagation delay time, the optical transmission path transmitting the optical signal representing the cryptographic key using a first core with a smaller delay among the multiple cores and the optical signal representing the communication data using a second core with a greater delay than the first core, and a receiver which individually receives the optical signals representing the cryptographic key and the communication data output from the individual cores of the optical transmission path and demodulates the received communication data on the basis of the received cryptographic key information.
