A process for preparation of a polyurethane-polycarbodiimide foam which comprises reacting a polyol component containing a benzylic ether type phenol resin having hydroxymethyl groups with an organic polyisocyanate component in the presence of an organotin catalyst for urethane formation and a carbodiimidating catalyt. According to this process, it is unnecessary to use fluorine-containing halogenated hydrocarbons as a blowing agent, and blowing on the spot is possible using a spray blowing machine or the like.

This invention provides methods for producing a high-molecular weight polycarbodiimide solution from an organic diisocyanate in the presence of a carbodiimidation catalyst, wherein 1) a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon or 2) an alicyclic ether is used as a solvent. Such stampable sheet shaped-product is produced by applying a composition consisting essentially of a foamable thermosetting resin onto one or both of surfaces of a sheet-like open cell plastic foam, so that the one or both surfaces is or are impregnated with the composition. Optionally, a proper facing material is placed on one or both of the surfaces, and the resulting material is subjected to a hot pressing. Alternatively, the stampable sheet shaped-product may be produced by a process including a thermal treatment step interposed between the above-described applying and hot-pressing steps.

The polyurethane resin containing carbodiimide bonds in the molecular chain alleviates the problems of the prior art and exhibits hydrolysis resistance stably over a long period of time without losing the carbodiimide bonds out of the molecule.

A hydrophilic dicyclohexylmethanecarbodiimide represented by the formula (1): wherein n is an integer of 1 to 10 and R.sup.1 is a residue of a mixture of organic compounds of different hydrophilicities each having at least one hydroxyl group capable of reacting with an isocyanate group. The hydrophilic dicyclohexylmethanecarbodiimide is improved in reactivity and storage stability, and is thereby easy to handle as a crosslinking agent for hydrophilic resins.

An epoxy resin composition comprising(1) an epoxy resin,(2) a polymer obtained by reacting a polycarbodiimide with a compound having, in the molecule, at least one group reactive with carbodiimide group, between the carbodiimide group of said polycarbodiimide and the group reactive with carbodiimide group, of said compound, and(3) a curing agent for epoxy resin.The above epoxy resin composition alleviates the problems of the prior art; has a long pot life in a solution state, has an appropriate gelling time and accordingly good workability, is superior in film formability and handleability in B-stage, and has high heat resistance after curing; therefore, is suitably used in printed wiring board, prepreg, etc.
