摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide a device, system and method for providing a connector configured for connecting to an artificial airway for use in the treatment of respiratory conditions and in assisted respirations. In an embodiment of the invention, a connector configured for connecting to an artificial airway is provided. The connector configured for connecting to an artificial airway can include an inlet conduit configured to receive supplied respiratory gas, an outlet conduit configured to allow exhaled gas to exit to ambient during use, an artificial airway side conduit configured to couple to an artificial airway and a restrictor coupled with the outlet conduit. The restrictor coupled with the outlet conduit can be an outflow variable restrictor. The connector further can include a reducer coupled with the outlet conduit.

In an embodiment of the invention, an artificial airway interface for a non-sealing respiratory gas delivery system that directs a jet of gas into the artificial airway is provided. In another embodiment, an artificial airway interface for a non-sealing respiratory gas delivery system that allows for conductance of pressurized respiratory gasses and at least one of a sensor and port for collecting at least one of data and respiratory gas samples is provided. The artificial airway interface can further include an outflow variable restrictor.

摘要: A novel and non-obvious apparatus, system, and method for managing respiratory secretions and fluids in sections of artificial airways. In an embodiment of the invention, a respiratory secretion retention (RSR) device configured to connect to an artificial airway can be provided. The respiratory secretion retention (RSR) device can include a housing that defines a passageway for the flow of respiratory gases, a chamber that is defined by the housing, where a portion of the chamber is configured to retain exhaled respiratory particulate and liquid, and at least one element configured to provide for repositioning at least a portion of the housing with respect to the artificial airway. In an aspect of this embodiment, the at least a portion of the housing can be repositioned with respect to the artificial airway without opening the artificial airway to the atmosphere.

摘要: A needle protection device is disclosed having an elongate housing with a longitudinal needle entrance portion defined between two housing side walls. At least one hinged door member is provided extending across the entrance portion to enclose the needle within the housing. In one embodiment the housing has a trap door attached by a resilient living hinge to one side wall and extending across the entrance portion to engage a door stop on the opposite side wall, so that the door is able to rotate about the hinge toward the first side wall to allow the needle to enter the housing, but is limited by the door stop in the degree of rotation away from the first side wall, thereby preventing a needle within the housing from exiting through the entrance portion. In alternative embodiments the door may extend less than the entire length of the housing and/or a needle engaging member, such as a needle engaging hook, may be provided to engage and retain the needle within the housing.

摘要: A nasal positive airway pressure device is provided having a pair of nasal members each having a cannula tip to be inserted into the nares of the patient. Each cannula is tapered from a substantially circular cross-section outside the patient's nostril to a substantially oval cross-section at the tip inserted into the nostril. An inflatable cuff surrounds each cannula with the interior space of the cuff communicating with the lumen of the cannula through at least one aperture in the side wall of the cannula. The nasal members are connected to one or more flexible hoses which, in turn, are connected to a source of positive air pressure. In use, positive air pressure is supplied to the each cannula tip through the air hoses and nasal members. The positive air pressure inflates the cuffs to hold the nasal members in place and to effect treatment, The tapered tip configuration, soft inflatable cuffs and adjustable positioning of the nasal members and tip provide a device which is more comfortable to the user. A variable diameter orifice for nasal positive airway pressure treatment is also contemplated.
