    Abstract: An optical fiber connector with a connector housing that holds a ferrule includes a retractable shutter having a shutter plate and a shutter actuator. The shutter actuator is slidably connected to the connector housing for movement relative to the connector housing between a front position and a rear position. The shutter actuator is configured to engage the mating interface as the optical fiber connector is plugged into the mating interface whereby the shutter actuator moves relative to the connector housing from the front position to the back position. The shutter plate is connected to the shutter actuator such that the shutter actuator is configured to drive the shutter plate to move between an extended position and a retracted position. In the extended position, the shutter plate is located to shield the ferrule. In the retracted position, the shutter plate is located expose the ferrule.

A receptacle can hold one or more connector inner bodies forming a single boot for all the optical fibers of the inner bodies.

    Abstract: The fiber optic adapter according to the present disclosure may include an adapter housing defining a channel to receive a fiber optic connector having one or more ferrules, and a first shutter and a second shutter attached to opposing sidewalls of the adapter housing. Each of the first and second shutters have a first member and a second member. The first member is configured to extend into the channel. the first members of the first and second shutters are sized and shaped to cooperatively close the channel. At least one of the first member is resiliently movable upon insertion of the fiber optic connector into the channel to open the channel. The fiber optic adapter may prevent the entry of the dust and other debris.

    Abstract: Reduced-profile connection components are described. The reduced-profile connection components are configured to connect various data transmission elements, including cables, network devices, and computing devices. A non-limiting example of a connection component includes a fiber optic connection component, including connectors, adapters, and assemblies formed therefrom. In some embodiments, the connection components may include mechanical transfer (MT) and multi-fiber push-on/pull-off (MPO) connection components, such as MT ferrules and MPO adapters. The reduced-profile connection components configured according to some embodiments have a smaller profile and/or require less parts to achieve a connection compared to conventional connection components. In some embodiments, the reduced-profile connection components may be used with conventional connection components. For example a reduced-profile connector may use a conventional MT ferrule to establish a connection within a conventional MPO adapter.

    Abstract: A fiber optic connector having a ferrule that forms an optical connection with another fiber optic connector. An outer housing supports the ferrule and has a front end portion and a longitudinal centerline axis. The front end portion includes a front end face with a portion of the ferrule being forward of the front end face. The front end portion includes a protector that is shaped and arranged to protect the ferrule. The protector is arranged so that the fiber optic connector and another fiber optic connector of identical construction can, starting in the same orientation, be mated together by rotating said other fiber optic connector 180° about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal centerline axis, aligning the longitudinal centerline axes and moving the fiber optic connectors along the longitudinal centerline axes until the fiber optic connectors are mated to form the optical connection.

    Abstract: Reversible polarity fiber optic connectors are provided having housings at least partially surrounding first and second optical ferrules with walls above and beneath the ferrules. Positioning removable elements such as latches, removable arms, or push-pull tabs on the first wall above the ferrules yields fiber optic connectors with a first polarity type, and positioning the removable elements on the second wall beneath the ferrules yields fiber optic connectors with a second, opposite polarity type. Various engagement mechanisms are provided on either the connector housing walls or on the removable elements, or both, to assist in affixing the removable element to the connector housing.
