    摘要: A process for preparing a sulfonate terminated polyarylate comprises blending a polyarylate resin with an organic compound to form a reaction mixture, wherein the organic compound contains at least one aliphatic primary amine functional group and at least one other functional group selected from the group consisting of sulfonic acids, sulfonic acid salts, and mixtures thereof, and heating the reaction mixture to a temperature of 225 to 400° C. The temperature of heating is above the glass transition temperature of the polyarylate resin. Sulfonate terminated polyarylates and compositions prepared using the above process, and articles comprising the sulfonate terminated polyarylate compositions, are also disclosed.

    摘要: A thermoplastic composition is disclosed, comprising a polymer comprising: a polymer component comprising a polyestercarbonate copolymer comprising carbonate units and ester units having an aliphatic group, wherein the molar ratio of carbonate units to ester units in the polyestercarbonate copolymer is from 99:1 to 60:40; and 0.01 to 10 weight percent, based on the total weight of the polymer component, of a polymeric stabilizing compound comprising at least two epoxy groups, wherein the polymeric stabilizing compound has a weight average molecular weight of 1,000 to 18,000 Daltons; and wherein the thermoplastic composition has greater than 70% molecular weight retention after exposure to steam at 115° C. for 7 days. Also disclosed are articles comprising the composition.

    摘要: A composition useful in the manufacturing of plastic cookware includes a polyetherimide resin and an acidic additive selected from the group consisting of aliphatic carboxylic acids having a vapor pressure less than one atmosphere at 300° C., aromatic carboxylic acids having a vapor pressure less than one atmosphere at 300° C., and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing acidic additives. In one embodiment, the composition further comprises an additional resin, such as a polyester resin. The acidic additive is effective in improving the mold release and increasing the melt flow of the composition. Articles including the composition and a method for preparing the composition are also described.

    摘要: A flame retardant composition and method for making flame retardant articles. The flame retardant composition can include a silicone polyetherimide, an fibrillated polytetrafluoroethylene, and a zinc borate. The silicone polyetherimide can be present in an amount of from about 99.6 to about 80.0 percent by weight. The silicone polyetherimide can have from about 5 to about 50 percent by weight dimethyl siloxane units, and less than about 100 ppm amine end groups. The fibrillated polytetrafluoroethylene can be present in an amount of from more than about 1.25 to about 5.0 percent by weight. The fibrillated polytetrafluoroethylene can be encapsulated in a polystyrene, a poly(styrene acrylonitrile), a poly(methyl methacrylate), a polycarbonate, a polyetherimide, a polysulfone, and combinations thereof. The zinc borate can be present in an amount of more than 0 to about 10 percent by weight.
