The field emission cathode includes a resistive layer structure, which is constructed of two resistive layers different in temperature charactertistics. 摘要： A display apparatus capable of preventing deterioration in the light emission efficiency of a fluorescent member thereof, that of the emission performance of the emitter thereof and shortage of the life caused from the deterioration in the emission performance. The display apparatus according to the present invention has the structure such that each of insulating support rods for supporting an anode substrate and a cathode substrate in the container of the display apparatus has a glass fiber support rod body made of a non-alkali material and the surface of the support rod has a coating layer made of a hydrophobic material so as to prevent diffusion of alkali components and generation of oxygen from the insulating support rods.

摘要： An image display device including a field emission element capable of preventing diffusion of electrons to be impinged on a display section. An anode substrate is provided thereon with a phosphor-deposited display section and a cathode substrate is provided thereon with field emission elements including cathode conductors, emitter electrodes and gate electrodes. The cathode conductors and gate electrodes are formed into a stripe-like shape and arranged so as to intersect each other to form a matrix. A stripe-like diffusion prevention electrode is arranged between each adjacent two of the gate electrodes. The emitter electrodes selected by the gate electrodes and cathode conductors emit electrons. The diffusion prevention electrodes on both sides of each of the gate electrodes selected are applied thereto a voltage lower than a voltage of the gate electrodes, so that the electrons may be impinged on the display section required without diffusion, to thereby permit picture cells required to emit light.

摘要： A field emission cathode capable of reducing an operation voltage and substantially preventing damage of an emitter. An emitter is provided on a substrate. The emitter includes a base and a plurality of rectangular tips projecting from the base. A gate is arranged in a recess formed on the substrate so as to be in proximity to the emitter. A width a of the tips of the emitter and an interval b between the tips are defined to satisfy a relationship of b/a=2. This permits an electric field strength applied to the tips of the emitter to be substantially increased as compared in a conventional field emission cathode of b/a.ltoreq.1, resulting in an operation voltage being reduced and a sufficient amount of emitter current being produced.

摘要： A field emission cathode device capable of permitting when short-circuiting occurs between any of emitters and a gate, a block in which the block is formed to be separated from the remaining blocks and preventing a material fused at the time of the short-circuiting from scattering. A cathode conductor arranged on a substrate is formed with a plurality of cutouts, in which resistive layers are arranged. The resistive layers each are provided with terminals through which the resistive layer is connected to the cathode conductor. An insulating layer is arranged so as to cover the resistive layers and cathode conductor and a plurality of emitters are formed on each of the resistive layers. A gate conductor is formed on the insulating layer so as to be positioned around a distal end of each of the conical emitters. Short-circuiting between any of the emitters and the gate conductor causes the terminals to be fused. The insulating layer prevents the fused material from scattering.

摘要： A method for manufacturing a display device is available that is capable of remarkably improving life characteristics of a display device. A display device placed in a chamber is evacuated to about 10.sup.-7 Torr. Then, reducing gas is introduced into the display device and held therein for several minutes, followed by evacuation of the display device to about 10.sup.-5 Torr. The reducing gas introducing and discharge steps are repeated several times. Thereafter, evacuation of the display device is carried out while keeping the chamber at about 300.degree. C., followed by sealing of the display device.
