摘要： An input image is subjected to transform by a DCT transforming unit 20. A coefficient analyzing unit 30 compares a predetermined coefficient and coefficient data 120, and obtains low-frequency image data 150 of the input image by a high-frequency coefficient masking unit 50 and an inverse DCT unit 60 on the basis of a result of that comparison. A pixel subsampling unit 70 receives this low-frequency image data 150, and generates a subsampled image on the basis of the aforementioned result of comparison. The subsampled image and coefficient information are transmitted to a decoding side. A decoding apparatus decodes an image on the basis of the subsampled image and the coefficient information.

摘要： Disclosed herein are easy-to-realize multivalued image coding and decoding devices, each of which is capable of reducing memories in number while the accuracy of calculations necessary upon coding and decoding is being held and relaxing a probability estimate. An image disassembler disassembles a bit string indicative of pixels into a plurality of parts in response to image data inputted from an image input unit. Further, the image disassembler sends the value of each disassembled pixel to be coded and the value of each disassembled pixel for reference to an image analyzer as disassembled image data. The image analyzer sends the value of each disassembled pixel to be coded to a coding unit as disassembled pixel-value data and transmits the value of the reference pixel to a probability estimate unit as status data. The probability estimate unit sends probability estimate data corresponding to the status data to the coding unit. The coding unit creates a codeword for each disassembled part from the probability estimate data and the disassembled pixel-value data and sends it to a code output unit as coded data.

摘要： In an image forming apparatus, memory capacity necessary for temporarily retaining image data is reduced. A decoding process is carried out by diving image data for one frame into element data for each color component Y, M, C and K. The element data for each color component is stored in the temporary memory. A controller starts conveyance of recording media on the basis of estimation of the completion time of decoding processing by a decoding speed estimator, and controls the recorders for Y, M, C and K to execute the recording process of element data retained in the temporary memory. This results in an image being recorded on the recording medium for each element data retained in the temporary memory, such that the conveyance of the recording media and the supply of data to the recorders for Y, M, C and K are matched, and the data amount to be retained in the temporary memory is reduced.

摘要： An image coding apparatus wherein an image signal including a locally high signal can be coded efficiently with minimized distortion by adaptively performing quantization for each subblock. An input image signal is divided into a plurality of subband signals by a subband division section. The subband signals from the subband division section are each divided into a plurality of subblocks by a subblock division section. In a classification section, a subband signal is classified, for each of the subblocks from the subblock division section, in terms of a feature parameter of an image, for example, a dynamic range, and a class index is outputted. In a quantization section, a quantizer is changed over for each subblock in response to the class index from the classification section. Each subblock is coded with a necessary minimum number of bits. The bit number is multiplexed with a code. Accordingly, the code can be decoded by referring to the bit number.

Accordingly, the binary image in the target image area can be coded by a binary image coding method only to thereby reduce the number of bits for coding.
